03 (Original) - Snowby ursulaComment: Originally posted by bsluijk: Snow and wind can have a wonderful effect. Well captured, and a good choice to make a BW image from it. I cannot judge the scale of what I'm looking at, but when I took pictures this week of the snow (using a 100mm macro, so similar to what you used) I was amazed to discover individual snowflakes just like the textbooks show them. |
I didn't use the macro for this, but the 18-200 walkaround zoomed at 105. It's a rather large bank, by the side of a mountain road. Distance to subject is about 10 metres (guessing).
Like you say, it is quite interesting how much detail you can get in snow. I am always surprised at how not smooth snow is, and how many different surface textures it can show. This snow (Thursday) was ratherr granular. By contrast, yesterday's snow was a crystaline surface. F/11 (rather than my often used fully open lens) helps a lot! The hardest thing for me is white balance when it comes to snow! Exposure is also tricky with snow, so I use the sky for metering and the blinkies on the viewer after a test shot or two. Standing Tallby ciaeagleComment: I love the POV! I also like the colours, especially in the sky. The slight clouds add a lot of interest to the sky. The focus seems to be strongest on the rear flower, the front flower looks slightly fuzzy in the sections closest to the viewer. I like the almost (implied) diagonal arrangement of the elements in the photo. I am not sure if I like the sunflares or not, they sort of work here, and yet, they grab the eye maybe just a bit too much. There also seems to be a dark line at the left edge, esp. to the top - not sure what that is. But, overall, an Unusual photo in many ways, quite eyecatching, strong. I like it. |

0626_9dpcby ciaeagleComment: Beautiful place, and photo!
Edit: I had asked where this is, but then saw your prior version of the same photo, and the question was answered :)

Table for Twoby ElaineComment: Better, yes. I like the lights in the door window. It looks like it is waiting for people, I like that. Message edited by author 2013-01-19 12:37:52. |

3 - Morning on the Busby tvsometimeComment: I like how this conveys a feeling of what commuting on a daily basis must be like. People in public in their own worlds. Good catch. |

Old Glass #2by thrumyiisComment: Beautiful subdued light. The bottles feel slightly tilted to the left, even though the wood is straight. I like this attempt better than last week's. |
