A Man Smiling to Himself

A Man Smiling to Himself
by tvsometime

Comment:
A man smiling to himself is the meteor of misunderstood waiting room conversations.
A woman whistling is the bullfighter of a disappointing moon.
A boy throwing a ball against a wall is the burning history of losers.
A girl braiding her hair is the yearlong relevance of the Pony Express.
Last night, the southwest coast of Italy was devastated by a frown turned upside-down.
We waited three days for the death of a Florentine pedagogue to arrive. It smelled Protestant.
I'll let you know as soon as peregrinations find their summer abyss.
You'll be the first to be first. People will wish on you.

One More Day
by mrbig65

Comment:
One more day and I'll have this figured out.
One more day of grass
bruising the sky with shadows,
one more day of gentle memories lost,
one more day of wasps building homes underground.
Sunlight is a slow paintbrush, too fine, too often abandoning
the labyrinths of unremarked detours, always wanting one more day
with its shifting indifferent canvas.

long distance relationship
by primabarbara

Comment:
It starts with a Kingsize bed. Then she takes a job in the next town.
After a while, her shoes turn into sneakers. You can't smell her hair.
You only see her for five minutes a day when you talk about dinner.
Then you only see her through windows. She is rooting for a rival sports team.
She has entire bank accounts you know nothing about. And vacations.
She is the poet laureate of a completely different state. She eats haluski.
After a few years, you're hearing about her children. Autism, not autism.
Her voice becomes more wonderful and strange than polar bears.
She's just a picture in a book you never opened because you're saving it for a gift
for someone you haven't met yet, who will need just the right thing.

I want to sit with you
look in your eyes
hold your hand
ask what is dear to you
what hurts you now
what you hope for
give you my full support
tell you what I'm afraid of
cry with you
share my tea with you
say whatever it is I'll help
talk to you into the night
feel your smile

There was a time when cappuccino was easy to identify.

Varicose, bellicose, unsaturated, infatuated,
metered, fettered, lettered, leaded,
feted, fetid, feeble, peopled,
where Lords and Puritans invented freedom together,
taken by ideology left and right,
walked by Shakespeare and Tyndale
who gave us not theater and religion, but our very language.
Oh, and Cats.

re memory
by Bear_Music

Comment:
When you remember something, you see it again,
and that vision replaces the original memory.
You draw a picture of a rocking horse
with the legs too long, the sickle feet
curving from nose to tail,
and you glue it into your old family album.
The glue invades the photographs
like the sunlight in your backyard
when you were a child, stampeding
on the lawn with merciless prints,
overexposed and quickly losing focus.

One Rainy Night in Shanghai

Comment:
I left you on the night I met you.
It poured two lives, painting their poses
on the windows, including sad and happy faces.
I only remember the name of your drink,
and the color of your umbrella.
The rest of you is just colored glass
I cover my eyes with.

The Frog

Comment:
The buggery of bug is never buggy:
When all the bugs are buggy with the buggy bug,
And bug in bugging bugs, a bug will bug
From bug to bug about the new-bugged bug;
That is the Grasshopper’s—he bugs the bug
In buggy buggery,—he has never bugged
With his bugs; for when bugged out with bug
He bugs at bugginess beneath some buggy bug.
The buggery of bug is bugging never:
On a buggy buggy bug, when the bug
Has bugged a bug, from the bug there bugs
The Cricket̢۪s bug, in bugginess bugging ever,
And bugs to one in bugginess half bugged,
The Grasshopper̢۪s among some buggy bugs.
