there's something oddly dignified about this portrait in spite of the undignified angle.

can I come to Iceland for a month and live with you? I predict front page for this, but I'm only giving you a 7. :P

it just amazes me how such a wonderful shot could get such a low score. I suppose it's fairly programmatic: soft focus = bad. blown out areas = bad. I wish people would rise up from their programs and see anew.

this challenge was before my time but I would have given it a high score. it is an excellent example of minimalism.

I gave this a 6 but probably should have gone to 7. What I like about it is that it looks like a flag! If I start a country, can I use it?

Pilings
by LucidLotus

Comment:
good decision to line the pilings up with the horizon. they seem to be holding up the sky, which is almost blank but actually has a puffy texture to it. the overall effect is quite surreal and switches visually. sometimes we see the pilings, sometimes they turn into a check pattern with the ground behind them. sometimes the foreground seems to be the subject. sometimes we can glimpse the landscape and forget the pilings are there, but just for a moment. I love this sort of visual epilepsy. 9

I just love how space is divided into three sections here, one on top and two on the bottom. On one side, people remain at the window, on the surface. on the other side people go into the door, into the depths. A seemingly arbitrary crop becomes exact. 8

fascinating hands, with those flat fingers. fascinating to see them in this contrived yet mysterious position. well-lit and good tight crop. 7

Nice colors. the distribution of flowers is not particularly interesting, but it is pleasant. 7.
