Early Man

Early Man

Comment:
very good job creating an anthropological/archaeological "look." The only hint of civilization here is that he peeled the banana and is holding it rather delicately. One wonders if this isn't early man on the brink of civilization. He does seem to be pausing. It could be the very moment that our furry Adam decided life could be better. "What other bananas are out there for me to peel?" The missing link between cave man and city man.

Dad creates his own "missing link"

I love this tableau. A great diagonal composition highlights the dramatic victim oppressed beneath the cold gazes of his onlookers, which run from indifference to bemusement to downright condemnation. The "missing link" here is empathy. This has all the effectiveness of a scalvert set up, but much more realism, even though we know it isn't real.

Wonderful visual joke here. Does the man look at the monkey or does the man look at his own monkey-nature?

The Line

The pose is perfect. He seems as burdened as the metal men are, but he is clearly shifting his weight, moving, escaping "The Line", becoming the missing link by escaping. I wonder if this is selective desaturation or he just happened to be the only colorful thing in the picture. I'd be interested to see it in black and white. Would the subtler image be more powerful or lose its power? I tend to believe the former, but I could be wrong. Regardless, an intriguing image and one of a handful of truly creative interpretations of the challenge.

Incredible shot. It's the distortion of the mother's face that pushes this into dream.
