He looks like many college professors I knew. The breath/cigarette smoke and nice glasses don't convey poor either. Perhaps including more of his situation would help.

His skin is white under the shirt, the dirt is clearly rubbed on, not "earned". Material is torn, but new looking. Like the missing/loose laces though.

For the sign to be predominant, it could be a little clearer. Now it's oversharpened mess. Might have cropped tighter too as the other units are distracting.
