Greetings from the Critique Club!

Composition:

First of all I like the idea, certainly unusual! I am not so keen on the slight lean the glass has or the fact it is almost touching the border on the right handside. Although centrally placing subjects is mostly a no no I think this would have worked well if it had been straight and in the middle of the frame. I have to agree with some of your commenters that the brightness of the green in the border is very distracting and does not help the overall look of the image.

Technicals:

I like your use of DOF here as it helps draw the viewer to the 'goop' on the top of the glass. The lighting does seem a little harsh and there are a few patches that appear a little blown out.

My personal thought:

Taking a little extra care with your composition and lighting would have given you a few extra points here IMHO

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Composition:

I like the position of the corner in the frame and the lines leading you from the left and right are good.

Technicals:

A very good choice on your white balance, the different shades of blue has really added an extra dimension to the overall image. There are some lovely textures and detail and certainly for first or second glance I couldn't tell what it was.

My personal thought:

In all honesty I can't find a reason why this image didn't score better! That doesn't help you much for the future, all I can say is keep on doing what you do! :o)

Greeting from the Critique Club!

First of all congratulations on almost reaching your 5.8 target Magen :o) Setting goals for your shots each challenge is a cool idea :o)

Composition:

My initial thought was this was a stack of funny coloured cookies! I really like your choice of angle here, I am not sure about the red 'object' in the background but it does help that you have it out of focus otherwise I feel it would be quite distracting.

Technicals:

I have to agree with your commenters that a slightly deeper DOF would have helped this image, not a lot though just enough to maybe have more focus on the middle 4 or 5 'cookies' ;o)For me this is the main reason why voters may have given you a few less points. You have captured some great detail and textures and I actually feeling the lighting you have used helps highlight the different colours :o)

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

I am not voting in this challenge but wanted to leave a comment...

I could go into the technicals and comment on your editing (which I actually really like) but for me that's not what this image is about.

On first seeing this, without pause or thought, I burst into tears. Every part of me wishes I could wipe your tears away and stop the pain and suffering this self portrait shows. Maybe I have an advantage as I know what you look like when you smile so seeing you so openly displaying how vulnerable, hurt and sad you are here makes this all the more powerful for me.

Don't let whatever score you receive for this image take away how important it is for you Andi.

Nice self portrait, you look good like this :-P I'm not sure what the toy camera is your playing with...surely your 'real' camera is much more manly than this? :o)
