The Clumsy Gardenerby GiorgioComment: Greetings from the Critique Club and a Happy New Year Giorgio!
Congratulations on your Top 10 finish!
Composition:
I\'m not sure how to critique this image! I think your composition is excellent. Your pose really made me laugh, definitely that of someone who needs a change of career!
Technicals:
The HDR effect you have going here really suits the image and with the leafless trees the colours and tones your post processing has given really make the image come to life! Not really a lot else I can say about this!
Sorry for such a short critique!

"Dogs"by chelsearocksComment: Greetings from the Critique Club and Best wishes for the New Year Chelsea!
Composition:
I don't know very much about Pink Floyd so can't really comment on your choice of song! I am afraid I would have to agree with one of your commenters below, this has more of a 'snapshot' appearance than that of a well thought out and composed image. I am sure it is difficult to get animals to do anything we want them to do but I would have tried to get them to 'pose' for this shot, be it sitting or standing, and maybe have them slightly off centre.
Technicals:
For me what lets this image down most is the lighting. The sky is far too blown out and the dogs are far too dark. Can I ask what mode you had your camera in? (auto, aperture priority, shutter priority, manual?) You have the same camera as me and I tend to shoot in either Aperture Priority or Manual. I feel this gives me the most control over the 'settings'. I am also wondering what you have your white balance set to as I too can see the blue 'cast' that one of your commenters mentions. You have also used a circular polariser, this doesn't seem to have had an effect on the image. You may know this already but it doesnt hurt to repeat it, your polariser will work best when the sun is at 90 degrees to your camera.

Our Anniversaryby sherpetComment: I too was browsing and just saw this in the recently commented gallery! I had to stop by and say congratulations on 35 years together!! It takes two very special people to make a happy marriage and 2 even more special ones for it to still be going strong after so many years. May you have many, many more happy times together x |

au revoir (never goodbye)by Ecce_SignumComment: Until now I have found this image too difficult to revisit but, today, I wanted to return to leave you this message:
You showed such courage in submitting this shot and for me that sums you up. This past 7+ months you have had more to bear than any Father ever should but throughout you have shown great strength and I am so proud of you.
You have allowed me, DPC and all that know you to see your love for Rose and through you we have been able to get to know your beautiful girl. She will remain in my heart always.
Even with all you have and still are facing you have managed to be there for me and words are just not enough to show how grateful I am to you for this.
So Andi, whatever life brings in the days, weeks and months to come I just want to remind you to take time out for YOU, hold on to your happy memories and don't be afraid to cry.
I am always here for you, Love you XxX Message edited by author 2007-01-02 19:00:53. |

Just One Kiss Under the Mistletoe?by SunshyneComment: Greeting from the Critique Club and Happy New Year!
Composition:
Great idea and I like the title. I would like to have seen a little more of the mistletoe at the top of the frame and more of a gap between the model and the mistletoe. The red 'ribbon' in the background is distracting and could do with being removed. I do like the pose but I may have liked to see slightly more of the hand or just the thumb and forefinger.
Technicals:
I definitely agree with your commenters, the lighting is a little harsh here. I am not an expert on portrait photography by far but one thing I have learnt is that (most of the time) the focus should be on the eyes and I certainly think in this instance you should have focussed on the eyes to give the viewer a more central focal point.

bridge-2_1_1_1WEB.jpgby sfaliceComment: what a pretty little bridge :o)I like the position in the frame and the fact that you have filled the rest of the image with greenery :o) IMHO the lighting seems a little flat, a little sunshine would really have brought the colour out in this shot :o) Still, nice work and I love the duck just swimming into the image :o) |
