I think you may have ran into some folks with uncalibrated monitors who thought the photo was overall dark. I looked at it on 2 monitor before I would comment on it. I like the details in the photo and the overall compositon.

The only major thin I would have done differently on this shot was to align the water so it flows out of the left of the frame and crop out the upper part of the frame so the bend in the river does not show. This would make a powerful diagonal in your shot give allot of depth to the photo.

I think you suffered from the crowd that wanted a tree to be the major focal point of the photo, even though the photo is really nice, especially for minimum editing. Thats the feel I get when I look at it though.

I think you got caught by the people looking for more than 1 tree in the challenge. This is a very nicec image and has nice contrasts to it. I would have rated in the 7 to 8 range if I had voted. But as it stands i think its a grat image for this challenge.

Hi Jim,

This is a nice action shot, I think the lighting had a bit to do with the lower score, there are somew harsh shadows thrown from some of the armor suits. The color is also a bit dull, could use some saturation. One other thing I see is no clear subject but alot of busy-ness. Alot of people (not me, but pointing it out) look for a defined subject in the photo.

Hi Pam,

In the photo, I would say the thing that threw off the voters the most was the horizon, to me (partilly cross-eyed) it sees a bit tilted to the left. Also the gravestone in the foreground probably should have been full or omitted because this is what gives the feeling of being tilted. I havent yet studied the minimalism rule set yet but I would have said a bit of hue and saturation would have helped the sky color.
