Post-Traumatic Emotionby PhotomouseComment: Pretty haunting. My eyes keep trying to make out shapes and it's eerie the amount of things I can see in this, kind of like a more detailed ink blot test. |

the day afterby mshafeeqmComment: This is a really cool shot. The boats are a bit surreal sitting there... if I didn't know this was a challenge with rules I would think they were added as part of a collage. I'm not sure though if this shot would be considered abstract, surreal perhaps, but I think for it to be abstract it would have to be a lot less clear what you were looking at. But it is very clearly some boats on sand. If you had cropped it in a way to where the boats weren't recognizable as such, I think it would work. Perhaps get the tips of the noses in only. |

Window on Windowby gwe21Comment: Well I just commented and the site made it dissapear so hopefully I don't repeat myself. But I just said, trippy cool shot. Interesting shapes are formed... but I think a photo like this would be better with some cool colors, but obviously that doesn't effect my vote because it's a B&W challenge. |

Ebony Stripesby ALAComment: Hmm... the shapes created are interesting but the composition isn't there for me. I think I would have chopped out most of the photo. Def would say get rid of the whole bottom section, it does nothing for the shot. I might even say to make a bold enough choice as to cut off the tops and bottoms of the glasses completely and have a thin strip of the photo showing the 3 variations of the background lines on in the thickest parts of the glasses. |

[ v ]by ACheltonComment: Very cool. I like the choice of focus and the overall feel of the shot. I think something bugs me about the composition though... I think in the case of a square crop a centered composition might have worked... made it stark and strong. Something... Not sure. But I like it. |

Transitionby TejComment: wow. skipping along and browsing through the photos this one hit me instantly. It has a strange feeling to it... like the object is going to move at any moment. Like you have caught it at this uncomfortable moment of suspension for all eternity with no resolve... I sometimes love photos like this that pull of making the viewer feel somewhat uncomfortable. It would be really nice to see this bigger or put it on the ceiling and look up at it... |

Crackedby TechoComment: Interesting lines. I like the way the light seems to be coming from withing the shells as it highlights the edges. I think for it to fit better in the abstract category perhaps going in a little closer would be nice... like perhaps cut out the background completely so you can't tell they are egg shells. I'd be interested to see this with an upward angle too... making it look like a tower. :)
Comment 2 from a non DPCer: My boyfriend was watching me look at stuff from across the room, he's a painter and said "are those eggshells? That's really good. That would make a really good painting" |

Brooke in Black n Whiteby SkyFoxComment: Very cool. I am a big fan of those lines... I was a fish as a kid and always tried to draw the lines I saw in the water at the bottom of the pool but I could never quite capture it. It's too chaotic. This would be interesting as part of a collage or to use as a texture overlay however on it's own it I don't think it has a strong point of interest. It's beautiful in the fact that it is so chaotic but it also makes it hard for there to be composition. |

Untitledby zackdezonComment: Interesting shapes made here. I have a kind of personal pet peeve about seeing the wall texture, as I've tried so hard to not show it in many of my own photos. For some reason I think it just makes a shot look like a snapshot. I think you could have just cropped a big chunk of the left out and brought more attention to the limbs shown... perhaps even make that formed square fit the rule of 3rds and become the bottom left corner. |

Cracking through Darknessby StructorComment: Tonally this is really cool. Normally I'd say up the contrast but in this case I think the dull greyness lends itself to a sort of eerie feeling. These strange muted greys coming out of the darkness... I'm not so sure about the placement and composition though, a different arrangement or cropping may have better served the shot. |
