Lost Soulby jmsetzlerComment: I like it! You're in my top 10 this week. I like the fact that this was done outside without flash or light control. |

Living Among the Stuffedby RiderGalComment: Not a huge fan of pet shots, but yours is an exception. I like the look on the dogs face, lighting and overall mood of the shot. Well done, in my top 10 this week. |

Okay.... Who Brought The Ball?by autoolComment: Great capture of a truely unique perspective. I like how all the birds just seem to be looking about for the ball. Well done, in my top 10 this week. |

Too Much of a Good Thing!by PtmanComment: Not sure of the stranger in strange land perspective of this as people have shots in beer all the time. Still, this is one of my top 10 shots this week. Nicely done. |

Frozen in the Mudby inspzilComment: Oooh! It's a frog! I think just a little side light to contrast the outline would help. |

Fan
Composition (Content)
Having the fan off to the side makes for a good setup, but the curtain pulled off to the side and the distraction of what is behind the fan makes it hard to get a feel for the shot. Perhaps having the fan with a black background and having some string tied to it so you can see that they were being blown by the fan would help convey the feeling of motion. As it is now, I can barely see some motion blur in the fan blades and the photo has a lot of distraction around the main subject.
Background
Colors are muted and soft. Looks like a single direct flash was used. Shapes and colors don't draw the attention of the viewer. A less noisy background would help focus the viewers attention on the fan.
Camera Work (Technical)
Fair shutter speed to capture the motion. Perhaps and little longer would help us see the motion of the fan blades. White balance seems off on the curtains as there is no pop with the colors or contrast.
Digital Processing (Technical)
Sharpening is fair( It does not appear to have post processing sharpening done)
Balance between light and dark is fair. ( The whole scene seems flat in color)
Compression is good( No noticeable compression artifacts)
My opinion
I feel that this idea is original enough if properly staged. Either by putting the fan in front of a solid background and opening the shutter longer to see the spinning of the blades, or by showing the motion of the curtain being blown by the fan. |

Max With His "Pet" Rock
Composition (Content)
This is not an easy shot to pull off. You are working with a very bright background, a dark dog and back lighting on your subject. These combined make for low details on the dog. Your capture of motion is good as you have, pardon the pun, frozen the snow in mid-air. A fill flash may have helped give the dog more detail as well as better focus. You may have also seen if a crop without the dark area at the bottom would give a stronger composition.
Background
Snow color is good, not blue as sometimes happens when photoing snow.
Camera Work (Technical)
Good shutter speed to capture the dog in flight. Would like to see a tighter focus on the dog as well as the use of a flash to brighten him up some.
Digital Processing (Technical)
Sharpening is fair( Unmask Sharpen might have helped sharpen the edges of the dog against the snow)
Balance between light and dark is fair. ( Dog is washed out, but snow isn't blown out)
Compression is good( No noticeable compression artifacts)
My opinion
Good capture of a dog in motion. Most areas that might need attention could have been handled in post processing (sharpen, brightness, contrast). Don't forget to use your flash outside to help minimize dark areas on your subject.

Courtside
Composition (Content)
You have captured motion perfectly. The fact that everything but the girls running are sharp and in focus is terrific. I will tend to agree with the other comments that some different crops may have worked better. I'm thinking portrait mode closer in on the players just left of the coach standing on the left side and just right of the last running player on the right. Keep the bee and the some of the foreground court.
Background
White balance may be an issue, but not a major distraction. Did you NeatImage this? It's very clean of noise. Excellent DOF.
Camera Work (Technical)
Good shutter speed used to capture the motion of the girls running but not so long as to blur the people moving in the background.
Digital Processing (Technical)
Sharpening is good( Doesn't look like you over sharpened this photo)
Balance between light and dark is good. ( Good job considering the location)
Compression is good( No noticeable compression artifacts)
My opinion
I like this shot a lot. Different crops may have made it an even stronger shot.
