Landscape from my deck through a hole in the trees.by waltomlComment: Critique Club Comment:
I loved this shot when I first saw it. The way that the branches form a natural border around the mountain is very pleasing. Without breaking your neck, having a little higher vantage point to include more mountain and less lower branches would have shown us more of the majestic beauty of the mountain. You have enough color and interest in the branches that they aren't just clutter, they are something to look at as well. You have really captured a special place that not many people get to see. You have me wanting to go to the mountains. I'd like to see a reshoot with less lower branches, more mountain and a little less grain in the sky. Good job!

Singapore Central Business Districtby icemarnComment: CC comment:
Cityscape, landscape... they're the same to me. So I like this shot. The use of a long exposure with the correct time of day has given this otherwise bland cityscape a nice cool clean look. The river leads you right into the center of the city. Do to restrictions it would have been hard to get a better angle with the river, but being dead center isn't distracting enough to me the viewer. What impresses me the most is that with that color of blue right next to the dark lines of the buildings, it is easy to get ghosting or artifacts. I don't see this at all. Your choice of a 10 second exposure correctly exposed this shot so that non of your lights are to bright, and the dark areas are lit well enough to make out the subtle details in the branches of the trees on the right. Only two things I can think of that would really set this picture out from the crowd... 1) If you could get your aperture smaller to have everything in tight focus, and 2) if you could elevate your perspective so that your camera is in a building or roof across from the skyline. Still retain the amount of river you see, but look more straight on at the buildings instead of up at them. This will help reduce the amount of tilt we see on the outer most building. Nice picture, very well done. |

Where Have All The Flowers Gone?by GeneralEComment: I think the patters on the wall are interesting. I feel the picture would have been stronger had you stood the photo up so it's not on its side and also did a horizontal flip to have the tall plant on the left side. We tend to scan from left to right, so having the empty space on the left makes the shot seem a bit unbalanced. Being that the photo doesn't haev much color in it, that seems fine, but you may need to do an unmask sharpen after resizing the photo down to 640x?. Your cropping is fine, you may have wanted to include a little more of the table so as to balance the white space at the top.
All in all this is an emotional photo. It is thought provoking and makes me wonder more about the subject in the photo. |

Dead Of Winterby jmsetzlerComment: Upon further looking at this photo I see much more than I originally did. This is an excellent shot with a very emotional feel to it. The headstones in the forground tell the story of a part of history. The one on its side shows how easily we forget. The strength of the tree shows how we overcome the loss of loved ones, and the building in the back takes us back home. Your conversion to b/w is well done. My only negative is the left side of the building is washed out. I know that in order to have enough light for the darker surroundings you prolly metered for it, resulting in a brighter building. Excellent work! |

City Landscapeby JMSComment: This is the best example of cityscape I've seen in a long time. Your colors, crop everything is just beautiful. It almost looks unreal. Great job! |

Virtuosityby RiderGalComment: It wasn't until I saw the slippers that I laughed out loud. Nice pose. Lighting is a little harsh, but when you're working with dogs, you get what they give you. Nice shot. |
