Coral Rushby salmiakkiComment: Lovely! For blur, this is a very decent score - and look at the commenters' score! It's a beautiful image, Sarah. Be proud to have it in your portfolio. |

atriumby skewsmeComment: In this very low quality challenge, this was one of my few 8's. Sorry it didn't score higher - I love it. |

Chipsby mutosComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
Your submission meets the challenge topic: Chips. Why did it score so low? Here are a few suggestions:
At first glance, the composition is very busy. The subject (stack of chips) is not set apart from the background sufficiently. The lighting does not benefit the subject - it is coming from an unfortunate direction and casting a shadow on the side we, the viewers, see.
The shallow depth of field works in part to highlight the subject, but in this case, it is a little too shallow - having the bottom part of the photo in focus would have lead the eye to that you want the viewer to see - the stack of chips.
The colors are a bit flat. Some adjustment of levels might have helped here.
That said, keep on shooting and submitting. There's no better way to learn!
Best,
Alicia |

Base Hit !!by jayzundelComment: Greetings from the Critique Club. You requested an indepth critique of your image and here it is:
This is a great moment captured. Wonderful motion blur on the bat and great visibility of the ball. The photo has a few challenges, which I will address. The BW tones are fairly flat. A lot more contrast and a bit of darkening would have helped bring out the pertinent elements. Also, some shift in the color channels might have contrasted the grass against the player better. The crop is a little unfortunate. Losing most of that empty space on the right would tighten up the composition.
I hope this helps!
Best, Alicia |
