I really like your B&W conversion and the high contrast created by the light background.

The lighting is very good, IMO, but that shadow is a bit distracting. What I would do is pull yourself a bit away from the background and make sure the focus is on you, which should create a much softer shadow.

I just saw this in your portfolio and it's certainly a cool picture and the dq sucks. I think the dq is due to the glow that the fractalius gave around the cup. If you look at the rim right above the handle, it has some tiny "fingers" that weren't there in the original. This is just a guess, of course.

As far as using fractalius, it may be possible to use very subtlety to enhance what's already there, but not add anything.
