My Red Umbrella

Hi from the Critique Club

Arpita, I hardly feel qualified to critique one of your pictures but here goes :).

First impression: Nicely posed self portrait, not familiar with the literary reference(didn't take time to look up), technicals seem perfect so I won't offer a comment on them.

Composition: Eyes are perfect and I like the diagonals in this pic and their contrast with the shape of your face and hair. ONe comentator mentioned the radiating lines of the umbrella providing a focal point, and i agree. I suppose my only nitpic would be that I prefer a little more space around the subject.

Overall: The main problem(and I use the word "problem" very carefully :)) are the different shades of red. The earings match the umbrella closely, but the shirt is more pink than red, lipstick also closer to color of shirt. My guess is that had those 4 "red" elements been brought closer together color wise, your score would have increased.

That said, i looked through your portfolio and it appears that you have very solid grasp of photography. Great pics and i"m adding you to my favs.

Great expression on this guys face. All pics in the series are interesting in their own way. A story behind everyone I'm sure. This is my favorite. The crutches really set up this story because it makes you take a second look at the guy and thats when you see his empty pant leg.

my favorite of this challenge. To some voters it may have too much light to be low-key in their minds, but the light really highlites the shape of of the mason.
