Come out, come out, wherever you are!by BarbBComment: Hi from the Critique Club,
Please pm me with any questions.
Really nice job with the focus and technical part of this picture with one exception. It seems as if if the composition/cropping choice places the lizard too far to the left/top. Maybe it is just too much dirt down below. It was a good choice to leave room on the Right side of the frame as this adds to the 'searching' impression.
You used the curve of his body nicely and I like the somewhat shallow depth of field. The colors are muted but that looks to be somewhat characteristic of the lizard.
Not a bad score in a somewhat low scoring challenge. Without the title, the searching connection would have been more difficult to make...with the title it works. My guess is that although no one mentioned it, the composition hurt you the most in the scoring.
Cheers,
Mark |

...for nuts!by SimmsComment: Hi from the Critique Club...Although I hardly think you need a critique on this image. ;) Here goes an informal, off the cuff reaction to your photo(more in the style of posthumous' 'Reaction' club.
The first thing that struck me when this popped up after the challenge ended was the rich brown tones. They do not look real, but I don't consider it a negative because the colors of the squirrel seem so perfect. (However, I know not your Epping Forest and the colors it contains so likely these colors are a perfect representation of the area.) The OOF areas are super and my only slight nitpic is that the nose of the squirrel seems to be just slightly soft, as if the primary focus plane is just behind his ears. I know these little buggers move fast so likely the softness is related to the 1/80. Blah, blah, blah, you know all this stuff.
Bottom line, I see it as meeting the challenge perfectly and was deserving of #5 if not higher. Good 'snappy' title, cute critter, and solid technicals. Long live shoehorns! |

Day 16 - Palace of Fine Artsby ephlnComment: Looks like it was a tough time to photo. Heavy shadows with bright sky. Nice job of balancing the two. I like the sweeping curve and wonder if it might be stronger without the pot in the lower right. Just a thought? |
