Hangin' Outby secondglantzComment: *Critique Club*
" Hangin' Out" is a great shot. I really love this perspective. The subject is amazing and the girl just demands attention. The soft glow and focus is excellent for these children.
I would have really liked to see this shot with a little more contrast, and I really think it would have bumped the score up. Color especially with children always seems to give it just a little more.
This was a great piece because it was different and not the run of the mill entry. The overall composition of this shot is excellent, I don't think you could have possibly cropped it any better. Good work. |

THAT'S RIGHT, THE BUCK STOPS HERE!by DustyComment: *Critique Club*
" THAT'S RIGHT, THE BUCK STOPS HERE!" is a good Wildlife shot. I am really glad to see a real Wildlife shot as opposed to the tons of zoo shots. I love how natural shot is. Its like watching a nature show and you can hear the quite voice in the background saying "through the trees we spot a buck in its natural habit". The only things I would try is to tighten the crop on the left just a little so that you don't have such a bright white spot on the bottom left corner. Also the ear seems a little bright. I don't know if it over blown or the contrast to bring out the tree is just a little much. The trees are so amazing to show the natural environment. I really am suprised I did not see this shot place higher, it really is a differnt from the rest and stands out. |

untitled (inspired by http://absurdada.photosight.ru/)by agenkinComment: *Critique Club*
"Untitled" is an excellent tribute shot. I think including the website was an excellent idea, I don't know how many people actually checked it but they should have.
As for the photo, you defiantly nailed it. I think this was a tough photo to take but you defiantly have the style down. Unfortunately I think voters vote the shots they like and feel comfortable with. I think based on tribute and actual work you should have been in the top twenty. I would be very proud of this piece. |

Lake Yellowstoneby howardjComment: *Critique Club*
Lake Yellowstone is a nice landscape piece. I think it was a great capture and placement of the trees, the nice off centered balance is prefect for me. It is very interesting how white the trees appear, it really makes the shot seem cold. I think this was an extremely hard category, especially with 800+ entries. I might have turned up the contrast and played with burning and or dodging to see what the image could be with some editing. I think catching the dark sky with the clouds really lets this become a better landscape shot and possibly enhancing this in contrast to striking trees. I am surprised you picked such a light piece looking at your other shots but good work on this one. |

Boating and Bikingby skiefComment: *Critique Club*
Boating and Biking is another interesting piece in the Best of 2005. I think this was an extremely tough challenge since there were 829 submission, and because of this a lot of piece did not get the attention they should.
I really like the overall composition of your shot,it is a subdued but warm shot. The subject and shot have a great sense of summer and all the pleasure and simplifies of being young. The yellow flowers give the shot extra attention, if they were not included I think viewers might over look it. I think I would try differnt cropping to see if it enhances the shot or takes too much of the subject away. I think the shapes give a great feel and even flow to the shot. Good work. Strongby dsherwinComment: *Critique Club*
Strong is a good choice for the Wildlife Challenge and I am very glad to see you did not just take a shot at a zoo, you should receive points for that alone. I can defiantly tell you were trying to have the focus be the gull and its expression. I think this was a hard shot to take. The blue background in contrast to the white of the bird gives a nice clean image but not much to grab the voters attention. I think some clouds might have enhanced the shot, it just seems a little empty. The beak on the bird also looks a little over blown, possibly the sun was just reflecting off of it at the time but it takes away from the Strong sense. You are defiantly doing great for all the challenges you have entered so far, so I hope to see many more from you! |
