still...someone's lifeby vanbirdComment: *Critique Club*
"Still...someone's life" is a very different entry into the Still Life II challenge. I have to say you have a different idea towards the challenge, which I thought was great.
The image is a great political statement for our world today. I think you had a perfect idea. Good placement of the subject and include of the yellow can, which I assume is for payment. I know this was a basic challenge but I would try adjusting the exposure, the lighting seems a little to bright. The lighting is a little too distracting for my taste. Maybe even if the light was only a small part of the right hand side. I understand it probably wasn't one of those situations where you could move your subject of the sunlight. I think this would be a prefect shot for advanced editing making it all grungy and dark.
Overall excellent, creative idea. Keep up the good work! |

Puddled Victoryby ParkerComment: *Critique Club*
"Puddled Victory" is a wonderful image into the Still Life II challenge. Not too bad of a finish in the top twenty percent, but I do have to say I thought it would finish closer to top ten.
This piece has amazing focus on capturing the light. I love all the lines and shapes you included. Great choice going with the blue for lighting and background, it adds to the cold effect. I almost get mesmerized looking at it like an abstract piece trying to see something in the ice. Personally I see a bunny, like the Easter chocolate. This is a great piece I love the light reflecting even on the inner smooth side. Wonderfully composition, the placement of the subject is great.
Overall great work, I would say all of your effort was defiantly worth the final piece. I look forward to your future pieces. |

A Day At The Spaby Ampao64Comment: *Critique Club*
"A Day At The Spa" is an excellent addition to the Lenscap Challenge. This is some really good work, congratulations on the 9th place and top 10 percent.
The image would defiantly grab the attention of any photographer, especially us Canon users. Ironically the image looks very fresh, maybe because of the spa or the cucumber. The focus, lighting and composition are excellent. Also I think the placement of your subject was just right with the rules of thirds.
I really do wish I had more to saw but this is just an excellent piece! Congratulations! I have a strong feeling it won't be long before you are added to the list of Ribbon winners. |

Weapon of Mass Destructionby chrono_triggerComment: *Critique Club*
"Weapon of Mass Destruction" is a good homage to Lord of War, which was an excellent movie. At first I was thinking of the Non-Point song "Bullet with a Name on it" but any way the shot defainlty grabbed my attention.
It sounds like there was some controversy durning the challenge as to wether or not this was still life, so I will just critique the photo itself.
The compoistion is very nice, we have a clean slate with only our subject. I think in this day and age an image like this gives a strong emotional sense. The focus is nice and stronger on the bottom. This I found interesting becuase usualy our focus is on the tip, so good job on a differnt persepcitve. Also it is intersting that you have enough light not to cast a shadow. I think a shadow with the soft focus would not have worked, so good choice.
Overall I think you had a very good orginal idea, and a pretty good image. Unfortunaly I think a lot of voters were thinking still life was only a living object. Either was this was a cool shot and I look forward to your future enteries. |
