Cloudy Buildingby rssparkyComment: That is such a cool building and you captured it well. I probably would have cloned out the other building that is peaking into the shot on the left. |

Flying Highby sabrizzComment: The light and color is good and this certainly meets the challenge. I think this would have worked better as a landscape shot with the main beam off centered. |

All the way up..and reverseby cryingdragonComment: I was going to shoot something similar but you took this to a psychedelic extreme! The colors are interesting but is not the type of image (digital art/abstract) to do well at DPC. |

Closing Inby BenComment: Interesting dynamic going on. The texture of the walls would have really benefited from some more sharpening and local constrasting (i.e. sharpen with a high radius and low amount settings). |

Apple Shotby accadyComment: Nice photo. While it doesn't have quite the impact the famous photo had it's still a great accomplishment. I'm wondering though why there is no impact markings on the other side unless it's just not visible from this angle. |

Need for Speedby cabaComment: Returning for comments.
This image has lots of potential for improvement mainly because you did a lot of good things in camera. I love how the white foam splits the image diagonally and how the surfer is leaning back, which the composition supports nicely. The image is also very sharp and all in all the quality level is high.
As for it's potential I would suggest tweaking this in post some more. If this was a "studio setup" I would suggest getting some fill light on the subject but since it's not you can do this in post especially since this is an advance editing challenge. What I would do here is brighten the sufer a bit selectively using curves or the dodge tool. I'd also add more contrast to this using USM as a local contrast enhancement tool. The color could also be bumped up just a tad also.
Anyway, just some suggestions on how to make this stand out from the pack more. Really a nice capture. Good luck in the challenge. |

A-10 Thunderbolt IIby BHusemanComment: Returning for comments.
First let me say the quality of this image is very good and most important no motion trails so you hit homeruns in both of those areas. The color, lighting and sharpness is very good. The composition is the only aspect that is just average (i.e. snapshot-like) but I'll get to that in just a bit.
To be honest, beyond the technical qualities I find little else to like here. The image just seems a little boring probably because the subject is centered, it's wheels are down and there is nothing in the background to suggest this plane was indeed in the air and in motion when you captured it. Now I don't doubt that it was but the photo doesn't convey that in any way beyond the fact that it appears to be suspended in midair. I think the images that will do well are the ones that have stop motion but still retain the feeling of motion either by seeing the background in motion or other elements to suggest it. That's really the only blemish I see with your photo which would work perfectly in any aviation periodical so that's no knock on your image in general.
In addition to what I mentioned something else that could have improved this shot for this challenge would have been the composition. Instead of having it centered maybe have it up in the top left corner, which means zooming out a bit. Also, tilting the subject so that the nose was higher up would convey better the feeling of decent (i.e. motion).
Anyway, just my thoughts. Good luck! |
