If the lips looked less painterly I think you would have done MUCH better. Voters want to be assured that the image is photographic first and foremost even if it's artistically processed. Since the lips are the only thing to gauge this (i.e. the detail) the voters are left with the impression that it's more painterly than anything else. If that makes sense. :) Mind you there is NOTHING wrong with this. In fact is pretty awesome but just my take on why it didn't score better.

Curious, why not drag the shutter so that you could use the long exposure noise reduction feature in the camera?
