The size of the bird in relation to the pier is what makes the photo for me. It almost doesn't even look like he's flying but rather protecting the pier.

I'm not really a fan of texture that "floats" between the subject and the viewer but here it's subtle and most of it looks like it's part of the walls anyway so I like it.

Unfortunately the shadow holds this back. It isn't believable. It should probably pick up some of the water texture and be softer than it is. Perhaps running the ripple filter applied at a low setting would have helped. Also you probably want to skew the shadow somewhat to account for the angle. It shouldn't be of the same length and width of the bird that is way above it.

Overly smooth but it works. The lighting on her face is really good. However, it looks like you had some issues on the harp as it looks edited and not in a stylistic way either. All in all not bad.
