Houses Of The Holy by pawdrixComment: Congrats Steve. Well done. This photo makes me homesick. I haven't been back to the city since '93. :( |

In My Time of Dyingby posthumousComment: Reminds me of a Nazi death camp. Something about those wires and beams fading out of focus and into the pure white sky. I can't imagine a better exposure/edit for this shot. Message edited by author 2008-03-10 04:14:15. |

clenchby jdannelsComment: A very classy shot. The lighting is fantastic and the noise gives it some character. |

Rinse Cycleby todbedyComment: Good lighting, focus and color. The background utenils makes the shot a little too busy. Perhaps if it had a little less contrast back there it would allow the foreground subject to stand out more. |

the saplingby yankoComment: I know finishing 19th is pretty good for a free study so I'm not upset about that. I'm just a little frustrated in general that I haven't been able to improvement much in the 23 free studies I've entered so far. I've just been stuck finishing at around the same range each time and haven't really gotten any constructive feedback in the process. Nearly 20% of the voters thought this was a below average shot (i.e. less than 5.5). There's nothing wrong with that. It just tells me there are different opinions out there and would like to hear from them. I check 99.9% of all comments I get as helpful because they are. So don't feel like you have to hold back. |

Dreaming of Springby jpochardComment: For me the lighting is too ordinary which is holding back the good color scheme you have here (reds and greens in particular). I would use a reflector to fill in some of those shadows so that more of the green popped. I would also experiment with a b/w conversion if you balanced out the tones more with the reflector but it probably has the greater appeal as a full color image.
ETA: In addition, I would try some light modification and change the light direction. Block some of the sun's light and use a flash on the ground between some of those flowers. That might get you some interesting effects. Message edited by author 2008-03-08 01:19:04. |
