The happy familyby dl_maggiComment: I like the simplicity of it. The silhouettes turn this from a specific family to a universal one. However, the main thing that holds this back for me is the lack of emotion. I don't see enough happiness in this photo. That's not easy to convey photographing silhouettes so there needs to be more emphasis paid on the composition to convey it. For example, if the child was being held up higher and a burst of light or sun rays was hitting the child it would begin to show emotion, that of pride and of happiness. Perhaps that's a little over dramatic or would make it too staged look but I just use that example to illustrate a basic point. Good luck. |

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birdsby bspurgeonComment:
Inverted and rotated clockwise? They do kind of look like birds but not just any birds, deranged ones much like Alfred's... and with that my YankO Yellow. Good luck! |

GHOSTby figaroComment:
Ghost indeed and a scary looking one too. I don't know what it is about shadows and concrete but they go well together. However, what puts this over the top for me is that bright light at the very bottom contrasting the dark figure. I'm a sucker for religious and ying and yang themes so you get my YankO Red. Good luck! |

The Horse Whispererby acoppolaComment:
It would be interesting to know if this was setup or not. It looks like it was but only because it's so perfect. Either way it doesn't matter. I love how the windows are such a strong element in this photograph. It allows the subject to reveal itself as quitely as a whisper but as an entry it roars. Easily the best in the challenge and my YankO Blue. Good luck. |

The Day The Sun Turned Coldby nutzitoComment: Great use of rays! I really like this photo. The only nitpick I have is he looks too much like he's reading the newspaper which for me softens the blow of his cold harsh reality just a tad and with a title like that I think the harshness should be amped up not down. Not that I wish more on this person just that maybe there was a slightly different moment in time that was a bit more defining, if I am to nitpick. That said, this is head and shoulders over most of the entries and is in my top 5. Good luck! |

Taking Flight (2004)by njsabsComment: Beautiful lighting. Looks good in color but I bet this would look even better as a b/w. If you got a rich dark tone in the background those seeds and the rest of the highlights would pop even more. |
