10 Second Rideby jrjrComment: On the first 15 pictures I see, I'm looking for a full 30 seconds and leaving a comment...Excellently done. I like the background which looks like a large wave poised to crash down. The composition is well done, the focus is spot on and the lighting is dynamic. The applicability to the topic is somewhat of a stretch, but that will only cost you a little. (by that I mean without the title I would be lost) 7 |

Ten days old; Ten licks per fawn spotby hahn23Comment: On the first 15 pictures I see, I'm looking for a full 30 seconds and leaving a comment...I sense the DNMC voters smell blood in the water. With that aside, the picture has very flat lighting or a cast to it. I think that pulls the entire picture down. Sharpness and composition are well done. Were it possible (and I know how fast these shots need to be taken), I would have moved to my right to get more of the fawn's head. I'm going to give it a 4 mainly for the flat lighting and the fact that outside the title I wouldn't have felt "10" at all. |

the iPod knows allby hopperComment: On the first 15 pictures I see, I'm looking for a full 30 seconds and leaving a comment...The B&W conversion and sharpness in the hands is excellent. I typically don't like pictures that rely on writing to convey the meaning, but this isn't bad (as far as that goes). The cleavage made me laugh at first, but then the connection to the "she's a 10" dawned on me (with the title). Even though you would need the speakers to go to your ears in real life, I wouldn't have included them. They look unappealing with the blurriness. 6 |

Dawn deliveries, by torchlightby locutusComment: On the first 15 pictures I see, I'm looking for a full 30 seconds and leaving a comment...I think it was a creative attempt, but in the end the picture fails to capture us. The blue tones of the sky give us a nice impression of dawn, but the rest of the picture is too murky and muddy. The flashlight also could have been pointed at the 10 since that is the "subject". Although I'm giving this a 4, I encourage your creative approach. |

10 Lost Sailorsby ingibComment: On the first 15 pictures I see, I'm looking for a full 30 seconds and leaving a comment...I like the composition. Small things to change: the blown sky and the weedy thing at center bottom (my eye keeps being drawn to it). The B&W conversion is nice. The pic tells a story as well (always good).6 |

Reflective Power of Tenby cislanderComment: On the first 15 pictures I see, I'm looking for a full 30 seconds and leaving a comment...I like the flipped canvas. It adds to the abstract nature and makes it about the geometry. The color is a bit flat, especially the background. I would have tried for something else. Either brighter or another color altogether. 6 |

The Big One-Oh!by scalvertComment: On the first 15 pictures I see, I'm looking for a full 30 seconds and leaving a comment...I like the composition and the fade to black is excellent. I tend to like a deeper DOF and in this case I'm not sure what the slightly OOF blouse is adding. Since this is the first shot I've seen, I'll likely be back to change the vote a bit. 7 for now. |

Solitudeby cpanaiotiComment: Ha, my first thought was "how the hell is this qualifying as 4.5-5.5?" but I see you just made it in.
It's a quality photo. I think that can be noted by the average commenter vote of 7.28. Those that took more than 3-5 seconds on the picture appreciated it. I bet the largest factor was simply voter fatigue. Look at all those 5's...
I have very little to say about this photo because I like it. I would have given it a 7. Likely not higher because it does lack that "holy cow" factor. That doesn't mean it's bad at all; I've got lots of shots I like a lot that don't have that, but "holy cow" (otherwise known as "wow") does rule here on DPC.
Don't change anything. OK, clone out those two tiny dots on the front petal. There. Nicely done. Should have been a 6+ for sure. Come on! Ursula gave it an 8, what more do you need? |

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...........by Jaded_HousewifeComment: Well, at the very least it's creative, eh? I do wonder a tiny bit about the subject. Is this usual to take a bath with flowers? I saw all the rose petals in the tub in American Beauty, but this is a bit different. ;)
But going with the shot, a few things. First, could you have actually reversed yourself in the tub and shot with your foot on the other end? That would remove the drain. I think it's an extraneous element and distracts. Removing as many unnecessary elements as possible is always a good thing in my mind. (With that in mind, the pink container in the background might qualify as well. I didn't find that nearly as bad though.)
I like the polish. But I guess that's my personal taste. ;) Here's a trick you can try. Use "Filter>Noise>Dust and scratches at a very low setting to try to remove some of those tiny highlights. Sometimes things can look a lot better after that. It's even basic legal (in case you need it for those challenges). |

Pinkby Elvis_LComment: Check your in-camera settings. Although this is straight out of the camera I find that reds (and pinks) saturate very, very quickly on the Canon sensor. If you shoot JPG and have the saturation boosted at all in camera it is even more of a problem. I lost a whole day of shooting tulips in April because of it.
Your composition is nicely done with the off-centered subject and the virtual leading line of the flowers.
Now the reality is (and you know this as well as I do) that an unprocessed picture is not going to be able to stand up to a processed one. Especially in a constricting challenge where all the shots are of one subject. |
