| 08/14/2005 10:22:07 AM | What America Was Built On = Factory Era 1942by JunieMoonComment: 5 - I think this is a very good photo but - I just wish you had only the year (a 7 or more if you had), but yes a photo of this put into a time capsule would depict the era for future generations. Criticism; not much, I like the sepia, I like the angle, save for maybe a little more 'ground' if that were possible. It is a good factory shot and yes does depict the era and in my opinion, didn't need the 'explanation'. |
| 08/14/2005 10:06:58 AM | 1865 Rendezvouxby rjksteschComment: 4 - Again the quandry, but it's a game and there are rules/guidelines. Definitely a 7 with just the year. And yes, a photo of this put into a time capsule would depict this era for future generations. I like the sepia(?), especially to tie in with the year/era, but I still wonder how well the color would have worked, especially as it likely brought the mountains into play more. edit:typos Message edited by author 2005-12-08 18:34:26. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/14/2005 10:04:08 AM | Colonial Water Park (est. 1820's)by JayWalkComment: 4 - (up from 3), This photo in a time capsule to depict the era for future generations would do well, but in my opinion, just the year was needed (and asked for). I think you have done well with the 'outfit', the pose is great and carefree, the water looks good, I like the frame, etc Maybe, sepia, but I like the colors too. Could be Huck Finn. Good feel, but for me, just the title - just my opinion and interpretation of the Challenge. 7 maybe 8 with the 'year only'. |
| 08/14/2005 10:00:31 AM | Valley Forge, 1777by APComment: 4 - I do really like this shot and think it does depict the era well (as a photo in a time capsule for future generations) but, yes, in my opinion, only needed the year, as well as that was my interpretation of the Challenge. Criticism; sepia maybe would have worked better to help depict the 'feel' of the era, but I do really like the colors you have here. kperhaps a slightly different angle and a little 'straightening'. Looks and 'feels' like an early morning. Up to 4 from 3. With just the year, 7. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Criticism; I just wish those chairs were not on the porch. It was the second thing I saw when I first looked at this shot. I really like the style of the cabin(?) and think you have captured it fairly well, but I would like to have seen a slightly different angle. Either more side on perhaps, or else front on. It seems a touch out of focus to me, but that may be because of the woodwork, not sure. Like to see none of the 'porch' cut off (as in that right side), a full view of the chimney without the tree blocking it, and somehow 'hiding' what looks like (could be wrong) a concrete path, for 'true authenticity'. The sepia(?) does work well, but may attribute to the 'blurring/softening' I mentioned. Of course that could be what you were going for, in that case, perhaps more grain and more 'old' feel. But given the seemingly simple colors that are there, I wonder if the color shot would have done well, even with some grain etc added for 'aged' effect. I just like this shot, but think it has more potential than you have captured. Ok up to 6 from 5. Definitely 7 without those chairs (but I know you perhaps could not have moved them - and if they ARE 'authentic 1836', excuse me). | Photographer found comment helpful. |

I think this shot has a lot of potential. Criticism; I would really have liked to have seen a wider frame here, incorporating both front seats (if not the full car). The bear detracts in my opinion and doesn't feel authentic, and just detracts from the style. Same for the dice and not sure what the green is on the steering wheel, but for me if it was not there it would be a better photograph in my opinion. I really like the red in this hot, coupled with the white and I think that you missed capturing the real 'glory' of this style of car, especially emphasizing it (the style) for the era/Challenge. The 'green' background is nice, and whilst another 'plain' background may have worked better, I think you could still have done a lot with what you have. Just for me, in my opinion, a more symmetrical shot, even from the same viewpoint you are at with this, would have made this a much better photograph in my opinion. |

Criticism; I like the effort you have seemingly made to get the aged effect, but in my opinion there is alittle too much grain, or 'something'. I like the angle, but would like to see the car driving a little closer. Not sure about the frame. To really nitpick, maybe the road sign needs cropping out, not sure. I like the 'feel' mainly though in this shot, just wish it were not quite so grainy. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/14/2005 08:19:38 AM | 1846by Nikolai1024Comment: 6 - Met the Challenge (in my opinion, a little odd way seeing as it also depicts any time since your year, but a photo put in to a time capsule would depict (I'm guessing the year it was built?) the architecture/religion/etc of the time/era for future generations). Criticism; not much at all, it is a good shot within a church, but the one nitpick would be the ceiling lights, re 'authenticity'. Like the reflection on the floor (which I am guessing is 'authentic 1846), the colors are very nice, the lighting is good, specially within a place such as a church, and you captured the leadlighting very well. Good 'mouse angle'. Up to 6 from 5, more if it just captured more of the 'essence' of the year/era (and the lights were cropped), but that is JUST my opinion re the Challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Criticism; I really wish you had been able to capture the character of this car, mainly it's 'curves' etc. Nitpick on the cars in the background which detract from 'yours' and also the 'era feel', but not sure if a different angle could have helped with that, even to 'contrast etc' them 'out'. The b/w works well, and indeed likely does help 'hide' those other cars, but I think that color might have been better here (again if you could have somehow captured just this car and a bland background). I like the paving/road effect. Just would like to have seen a little more 'character' pop out with this 'automobile'. Different angle, different crop (especially not cutting off the very front and rear), would have made this a better photograph in my opinion. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/14/2005 07:53:51 AM | 1814by RiponladyComment: 6 - Met the Challenge (a photo of this in a time capsule depicts the era for future generations). Criticism; whilst I like the 'unusual' view of color for this type of 'era' (though I assume it is a current day activity you have captured), given the title, I think the old b/w or sepia would give it more drama and 'era feel' too. The look on the lady's face seems very natural and 'unstaged'. The colors are 'mellow' and you have captured the textures quite well. Perhaps a wider view (incorporating the surrounding 'era' items) may have made this a better photograph in my opinion, not sure. Perhaps, a slightly more side on angle, not sure. For me, it does look like 'stepping back in time into this setting', so in my opinion, you've done what you were challenged to do. Ok up to 6 from 5. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
