| 01/24/2006 07:07:09 AM | Climbing Higherby TuckersmomComment: Nice color capture. Look like clematis. I think if this had the sharpest focus further 'fore' (or possibly a crop variation), to allow for more texture, and a fraction less 'dark' (although I realize you may have been going for this 'effect'), make this even better in my opinion. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 01/24/2006 06:52:01 AM | Singled Out Outtakeby yakatmeComment: Hypothetically, '5' - maybe. More of a 'direct' candid than a 'singled out' in my opinion. edit:typo Message edited by author 2006-01-24 06:56:11. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2006 06:49:36 AM | Dapper Duoby yakatmeComment: I gave this a 6. I thought the character/eccentricity capture was fairly good and that it was a fairly good candid capture within the crowd/environment. The main 'criticism' I had was: although the gentleman was 'singled out', he (and the dog) did not 'stand out' enough in my opinion. The character(s) were colorful, but the crowd was even more colorful, thus detracting again from the impact of the 'singled out' subject(s). The dog possibly in focus as well and more visible, a finer crop especially the lady on the left and the 'blown'/overexposed people/objects in the distance and possibly also at the bottom, especially to eliminate that 'pink leg/brown shoe', may have made this better in my opinion. Also, fairly minor (but causes additional issues in trying to adjust in pp), the reflection/blown' area on the gentleman's forehead is slightly distracting/detracting. The lighting may have been better utilized from another angle, depending what was there/you had access to, obviously. His seemingly smallish frame/build makes it even harder to 'single him out'. Lastly, although the focus seems good (also for 'isolating using range'), but a little sharper would be even better, just seems a fraction blurry, but could be resizing issues, etc. In my opinion, even a 'perfect shot' of a character like this (with or without dog), likely starts to get into areas of 'novelty'/subject matter and personal preferences, style/taste; if you've seen it before, then it is not so novel and the 'character impact' may not be as strong &/or some people/viewers will 'see' something other than 'the novelty' or 'character', if that makes sense. Difficult, and you obviously attempted many shots as mentioned, so well done for making a concerted effort to try to 'meet the Challenge', which you did well, in my opinion. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/23/2006 06:56:27 PM | IMG_5027adjusted.jpgby Rando D300Comment: Left more detailed comments on 'main'. Looks like a very slight 'purple tinge' to this, but a difficult shot to adjust.
edit: apologies, you nudged rotated this up on the right, which was my first 'perception' and 'suggestion' ('landline level' etc) - after I tried to edit it, I started to concentrate on the snow/direction/leap and that paw, that's where I started thinking 'gravity/impact', hence 'left' - sorry for the confusion. This edit does 'pop' more than your original because of the color tweaking. Message edited by author 2006-01-24 06:13:41. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Left a comment on that. I tried a couple of different 10 min edits, but think I took away the 'natural':
I am no expert in photography, nor post-processing nor do I use PS (but have). Perhaps someone with more knowledge/skill can help with this shot if you were wanting to try to tweak it to get the very best out of it. PS likely does have more 'tools' within it to help more finely tune this. It's a good capture, as I said, but opportunity and lens(es), equipment, etc, as you are fully aware.
edit: updated comment on that other version - my apologies, I confused myself with the left/right nudge rotation - first viewing concentrated on the 'land level', then after trying to edit it myself, concentrated on the 'leap/impact' - sorry.Message edited by author 2006-01-24 06:18:05. |
| 01/22/2006 09:28:02 PM | IMG_5027.jpgby Rando D300Comment: Nice capture, unusual angle/perspective, good composition, nice background and bokeh. Difficult to discern (and apologies in advance if wrong) but looks like it needs a nudge rotation up on the left/right/I'm confused now, or it may just be the perspective. Sharper and more 'pop', the colors tweaked perhaps (difficult, especially with the snow), make this even better in my opinion - but obviously opportune and good capture for that. I like the spray of snow from where it lept. A unique shot. edit2:changed 'right'/'left'/I'm confused now - 'typo' - I think it was 'right' originally - looks fine any wayMessage edited by author 2006-01-24 06:07:42. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
