White angelby BoltiComment: Critique Club Review:
A picture like this is hard to do, and you have a good foundation here. Things that come to mind are, that with the stretched fabric you have blocked the horizon, and created a new one. Unfortuantely since her arms are not exactly level it creates the illusion that the camera is tilted. The eye tends to slide down the new "horizon" and off to the left of the picture. A shorter depth of field would help focus the attention on the angel, the detail in the background competes a bit. Lastly soft focus or soft lighting would help a bit here also. Angels are mystical creatures, and the lighting here is very direct, almost harsh. Good control of the exposure and contrast. Nothing is burned out or muddied. |

Blue, Eyesby levyj413Comment: Critique Club Review:
I'm surprised this photo didn't place at least in the top 10. You have a very good exposure, great contrast, and excellent depth of field. It took me a bit to find the nose, and that is about the only feature that I wish wasn't there. Nothing personal against your nose, but till then the picture has even more punch. Since you can't see the bridge of the nose, and the lighting accentuates the brow, could this be Neanderthal, King Kong, an Alien brooding over the earth? Or even another blue planet? Lots of interest and energy here. About the only other minor negative I see is the lower right of the picture is approaching burn-out, which draws the eye away from the rest of the composition a bit. Not bad, as it takes awhile to happen, but could be an improvement. |

"Emeralde" Forestby JudiComment: Critique Club Review:
Quite an interesting phtograph.
Good depth of field, focus is fine. I like the yellow and green saturation. However, to my eye the "wizard" is almost a distraction. He seems almost "photo-shopped" in. The light is from behind him, yet he is lit from the front and casts no shadow.
You have a really good, mysterious photo here. Almost a monchromatic study. A darker "wizard" would have been more of a compliment.
Overall a very good photo. |

Asleepby nico_blueComment: Critique Club Review:
Nice tight composition. Taking the background to white works well. However, there are a couple of spots on the model (just below the left hand and midthigh on the right leg, where the detail has burned out. Great depth of field, and except for the two small areas mentioned, very good tonal control. Nudes are always risky in a challenge. Should have scored higher. |

Shades of rust by merheimComment: Originally posted by l99057j: Does anyone else see two rusty faces in this photo? Maybe I've been staring at it too long.
I added some labels to the image to point it out. The blue arrow points to a second "face" that is a little harder to see. Tilt your head 45 degrees to the right and you might make it out. It looks like a little "alien" to me.
I thought it was cool, but then I'm running on very little sleep :^)

I didn't see your second one, till you pointed it out. However, that makes three for me. I see eye sockets and a nose filling the area below the water line. Starting to sound like where's Waldo?
Great image and a well deserved ribbon. Not often do we get one that provokes levels of discussion like this. |
