Just a really quick edit of your file (hope you don't mind).

Levels, right slider to the left to brighten up the grass a little.
History brush on the sky to bring it back to it's original levels.
Levels, left slider to the right to darken the sky a little.
History brush on the grass to bring it back to it's previous levels.
Shadow tool to ever so slightly bring out some more detail in the grass.
I cropped it somewhat like Greetmir suggested and tilted it to level the horizon.

Like I said, this was a really quick edit of the small file, but you get the point on how it can be improved IMO.

I hope this helps.

Hey Sandy, I just now got a chance to sit down and start going through the lineup post-contest. I remember this shot from the beginning as one of the ones that I thought was going to do really well. Nice crop, nice dark background, and great shot overall. My son, 'yakatyou' sitting next to me asked me to say that he likes it too. Actually, he was looking specifically for this entry to see where it placed.

Nope, it's off of Tamiami Trail out near Shark Valley. Good fishing out there too.

OMG, there you are, still breathing down my neck. It's been a fun week speculating on who was going to be top banana (or veggie). Very nice shot. Now I want to see that outtake that you mentioned.

I see what you mean about the focus barely being off on the rider. It's not easy. I take a lot of pics of kitesurfers and it is definitely tough to have the focus perfect at the moment that the shutter opens. Otherwise this is an excellent shot.

Wow, I love your choice of composition that frames the deer to the side so well. Maybe cropping to eliminate the fraction of tree trunk to the left would make it even better.

Yes. I shot this the day after Tropical Storm Ernesto blew through, so there weren't many people braving the waters on this part of the beach.

I'd like to see your shot.

Nice variety of colors in the park. Without a definite subject my attention is drawn to the two large trees which are neither centered well or purposely offset. The fine details on the ground are hard to discern, but I think that is a path in the left third of the picture next to a small tree. That (slightly curving?) uhill path might have also made an interesting subject in this park. I wonder what your post processing was. Maybe the detail in the colors were lost due to too much boost in contrast. I don't know, so please don't take offense if I am mistaken. I just know that it happens to me sometimes and I have to be careful not to overuse contrast.
