The Pinnacleby MAKComment: Wasnt that shot with your Fuji camera? I love the tonal range you have in these shots and the angle really makes it look like it was captured in the wilds.
It wasn`t far off your estimated score either.
Great work. |

Quite an uninspiring shot to be honest, it doesnt provoke any emotinal reactions (and I am quite a sucker for good aviation shots) and has no WOW factor whatsoever. Its tightly cropped so gives us no sense of movement, size or location (except for being in the sky). There is also some sensor dust present that could of been removed, but to be honest it doesnt detract from the image overall..
sadly I am going to revise my vote down on this to a 4. |

OK, my one mission this year is to capture a picture of a wild barn owl. Now if this is a wild one (and I am assuming the fact it has no leg ring or jesses) then it is a great capture. Nice exposure but would of benefitted from a tiny bit more contrast and maybe a bit more sharpening. HOwever good shot overall even if it is a captive bird.

OK, I am not sure why I gave this a 5 the first time around - on revisiting this image I notice the horizon isn`t straight! (I even checked in photoshop in case my eyes were uncalibrated). Secondly the photo is actually rather boring - there isnt much happening in the sky in the way of clouds, sunbeams etc and the lower half of the photo is just rather dull. Its not really telling me a story, it provokes no emotion in me and has zero WOW-factor. Also there seems to be some vignetting in the lower left corner which unbalances the image even more.

Chapel of Loveby SDWComment: (Voting completed - back to comment on random images)

First off the composition is good, the symmetry pleases this OCD sufferer. Now, the only thing that lets this down a bit is the processing. To my untrained eye it looks like you have run this through a tonemapping program, maybe Photomatix? It seems the dark colours have `run` out of the roof of the chapel and stained the sky, resulting in a darkened sky that actually draws the eye more than the bright red door. However, everything else here is good, granted the shot doesnt really have a a WOW factor, but since the symmetry is rather pleasing it please a base emotion in me..
Revised vote - still a 6 - well done. |

This is a classic pose for a family of Cheetahs so the composition is bang on. Technically its flawed in as such not all the cats are in focus, the little fella at the bottom left is WAAAY out of the area of focus, so shooting with a smaller aperture would of been of benefit- they don't seem to be moving around too much so I am sure you could of afforded to lose a bit off shutter speed in exchange for a deeper DOF. Exposure and colours are good though. well done.

OK, lets see. Its a technically sound image - good strong light, good composition and if we had the time to ponder over each image one could ask oneself how the boat ended up where it is, we know its probably a mundane story but one can be allowed to imagine it was beached after her crew fought in a storm at sea. Sadly there is no real WOW factor to this image and it doesnt really provoke any emotions in me, which in my view are two of the biggest points I look for in any photo.
I'd imagine you are sitting on quite an average score at the moment, 5.4 to 5.6.
New vote - still a 5. good luck! |
