I think that this is a good use of the US flag symbolism - I have said on some other images using the flag that "Without wishing to offend, the patriotic call implicit in the flag may switch off some non-US voters - very slightly cheapens the image for me as it feels as though the symbol is being used to evoke an emotive response that the picture would not otherwise demand." Here, I think that you have managed to combine it with a little more dignity and relevance than most.

However, I am not a fan of the selective desat - too much white here for a full desat to work, I think. Maybe a muted tone would have worked better?

interesting location! colours feel a bit yellow and the contrast between graveyard and bar a little too sudden. Would have been interesting if there was a shot with grave on foreground and just the "six feet under" slightly out of focus above.

interesting shapes - I like the sky too. background to cross detracts a little from the shapes, maybe (though hard to see how that could be avoided). Would be interested in seeing this reshot with shallow DoF to soften the background, but enough to retain the shape of that interesting church.
