This could be a really top noitch pic, but you will get criticised for the date stamp (heavily) and the distracting ephemera around the old man. A tight crop around the man (perhaps with an image in which the socket is not sticking out of his head) adnI think that the lighting and subject matter would score highly. Even with the bits of sticky tape, the light and interest in the subject is fantastic. You are also not using all of your 640 pixel allowance... increase the size if you can.

Yep - title down to a tea. Personally find religious fever a bit much - the book mark maybe puts me over the edge very slightly on that front (though for many I am sure that will not be a problem). red stain in book mark hole is slightly distracting. Otherwise like the DoF and composition!

The beginning of defiance

my gf refused to do this... good job in getting the idea onto film (as such). Slight lack of sharpness detracts and it looks as though there is a bit of noise in the image generally. Maybe your ISO setting for a (presumably) indoor, curtains closed kind of shot. Consider applying a bit of sharpening to the pic (remember to do this last).

Compositionally, the apple might have been more interesting outside the centre of the frame.

I was waiting for one of these - good capture of a reasonably obvious idea! Simplicity is good, but some focal point onthe horizon might have been interesting. Looks like you may have increased saturation to near the limits - maybe just loing some detail in the process in the waves.
