The way to.....by hajekaComment: very interesting abstractness to this. title gets me nowhere but, ignoring that, I enjoy this. Maybe without the ellipses. Yep, really like the title without the ...... 8 |

final cutby cutoutComment: You are probably not scoring well with this but, as a piece of art, I find it extremely intriguing. Takes me back to near the beginning of modern art in the US, to a study of the human form. I love the tones and thing they work tremendously well to add to the shape. Not sure what this is an image of (not that it matters) but I'm looking forward to your notes. Love the fitting title. 9 |

Down the Garden Path...by NikonJebComment: Like the composition and the elements of the image. The haziness/gaussian blur give it a kind of watercolor effect that I'm not sure adds to the image. Strange editing mishap in the roof of the house. An alternate edit might be to try Feivel's gothic glow - it would really punch the colors and add to the lushness present in the scene. 6 |

Garden Hoseby alexjackComment: the front is a little too blurry/hazy but I think the depth of field works wonderfully otherwise (crop a little off the bottom). I love your thinking for this. 7 |

... and I heard somebody singing sweet and soulfulby pawdrixComment: First, let me say that I typically love your work. It often packs an unexpected wallop of insight into some place or some thing. This one feels rather empty for me. I like the cross, the clouds are cool, but I'm missing context. I have the top halves of a couple buildings and most of a fire escape but it doesn't feel like its enough. Its like the images you see of airplanes or hot air balloons with some clouds and treetops but no other reference to ground it in a place. And this place looks really interesting, from what I can see. I want the street. I want the life. Even if none of it is moving. My point is, compared to a lot of your work, this is only a half-truth. I want the whole truth. I'm just not getting it here. |

Pastel Leavesby chromeydomeComment: I would ignore the score on this one - you are going against the best of 2007 with people who love lots of editing. Honestly, this is simple and beautiful. Well composed, perfectly focused, the colors pop... I wouldn't change a thing. |

The Little Match Girlby snafflesComment: If this had been taken "technically DPC perfect" I think you would have lost much of the emotion of the shot. It would be like any of dozens of others of a sad woman's face. In this, the wild colors, the movement, the noise, all add to the story. I get the feeling of the little match girl, her desperation, her shivering, by the techniques you did use. It is not always the case that one wants to take a 'stock' image; this is such a case. So, if you want to score high on DPC, follow the advise of others and take a technically perfect but emotionally distant image. Otherwise, keep doing what feels right for the story. Personally, I like this shot. I like how you did it and what you did. there are a million ways to change it but then it wouldn't be the same. Good luck and keep following your heart! |
