The Violin Lessonby e301Comment: love this. Think I might have preferred a landscape crop but this works and this is what I see. There is a whimsicalness about this that I love and I could study it for a while to try and see why they are running, why they are there, why they have violins but then I must think, Why not? Thank you for this excellent moment, one of my favorites of the challenge. 10 - good luck! |

Contemplationby trnqltyComment: Really like this. Feel its tilted to one side but you probably have a million comments on that. Excellent portrait and the vignetting works very well here. Tonal range excellent and conversion well done. DOF enhances focus. 9 - good luck in the challenge! |

Uncappedby moonwellComment: typically not my preferred style but this is compelling. The composition is excellent. This image hold my attention. The detail is excellent, DOF and focus perfect. Not a defining moment but I feel something is defined here, I'm just not in the right mind to get what it is. Such is life. Well done for making me stop and wonder for a while. 8 - good luck in the challenge!

The Triumph of our Tired Eyesby NazgulComment: Title doesn't work for me - kind of pretentious for a less than pretentious person. But that doesn't really matter. Would have liked to see a very thin border but that doesn't really matter either. The focus and DOF of this image are perfect. The conversion to black and white extremely well done - tonal range excellent. Like the fact that you left in the noise - way too many images in this challenge are neat-imaged to death. This one is refreshing in its simplicity, it straight forward presentation of the person and his personality. 10 - good luck in the challenge. |

Adult Swimby irishempressComment: I love this image. Probably mostly due to his expression. Excellent conversion. Don't care for the thickness of the border but its irrelevent. Title works well and adds much to image. 10 |

I Can Block the Sun with my Handby xianartComment: 1930s feel to this. Love the grain. I just keep thinking deep south and Dorothea Lange. Capturing a defining moment as it is. I like this, I like what it says, I like how it says it (to me anyway). Hmmm. More contemplation. Thoughts of wishing I had taken this. Thoughts of hanging on my wall. Crap - jealousy popping up. I really need to get away from DPC and get back to seeing images such as this. 10 and a favorite. |

Inner childby PeterPicComment: The image, I love. The black and white conversion is very well done. My issue is with the title. So much more could have been said about the moment, the scene, than what I get right now. But I'm not going to deduct points for that - it was your personal choice (I will say, with the right title, it would have been so much easier to click the 10!). Yes, there are distracting elements that people at DPC will say you should have corrected, but this is a defining moment image. If you had waited for the two to pass and gotten a clean shot, you may have missed this perfect moment. Or you may have had a pissed off mother - some people are weird about taking pics of their kids. DPC wants set up shots and you can't get around it. So if this scores below a 6, take it with a grain of salt. The image is worth much more than that. The contrasting tones work perfectly with the contrast in the scene itself. The focus and DOF are spot on. Its a keeper. In some odd way, I think the image wouldn't be the same without the two in the background - having the child alone would make it seem too posed - we know this was a candid moment by the inclusion of the other people. At any rate, having gone full circle around the image (in my head), having looked at 100 other images - mostly of sunsets or people staring off into space - I feel compelled to click 10 - my favorite in the challenge so far. |

She Waitsby missinseattleComment: appropriate softness for scene. Like the tones used. You would think the dark clump at the bottom right would be distracting but it actually (for me anyway) balances the image. Well done and well cropped. |

Where's Alice?by redmoonComment: pretty cool. Something just so odd about it - phallic if you will - contrasting with the softness of the trees and the clouds. :) |
