Tempest by slide12345678Comment: Maybe not a tempest - it actually looks quite lovely and serene. It is, however, a very nice shot - well composed and the colors, clarity, and depth are wonderful, particularly when limited to this size presentation. |

Wind Beneath My Wingsby rosiehallComment: Nice capture of a bird in flight. The murky background may be affecting your score a bit, or it may not. I like the splashes of blue - gives it nice depth. |

Vines In A Breezeby 777STANComment: Either it is indeed windy or you need to quit dumping the leftover coffee into the vines' potter. An interesting result - I like the repetitive pattern that it forms. |

Hold On To Your Balloonby cloudsmeComment: Heh - now that's windy! I always look at the photo before reading the title - at first I thought it a yo-yo but determined it a balloon, and that it is indeed rather windy because of that. |

Invisible Foeby jrjrComment: Nice grungy processing and muted colors - really adds to the gray day, icky weather, windy kinda feel of this shot. Love the lines formed by the poles and the road, too - gives it nice perspective and depth. |

Blowin' in the Windby librodoComment: Excellent idea for the challenge - I like having her way on the right and only partially in the frame. Colors are rich and warm. I'd have liked to see maybe just a bit of the bubbles in focus, but it's good the way it is, too. |

Blending Inby KelliComment: First off, it's one heckuva shot and one heckuva find! Great macro detail, lighting is spot on, colors are very good. I like the fact there's OOF in both the foreground and the background. He's pretty well camoflauged but the DOF used allows the viewer to "find" him. That's a pretty good use of "bokeh" to some extent, but a very sophisticated interpretation is required to see that. The single flower near his head which is also in sharp focus (obviously it had to be) may be what limited the ability of the use of bokeh and/or DOF to bring out the bug more.
There is some noise/grain in the background, but not enough to note. Any picture with a shallow DOF will have noise/grain, and to me it's normal. I certainly don't think it enough to seriously detract from your score but this is a very particular crowd! |

I took the bokeh less travelled byby posthumousComment: Every once in awhile I think you throw one out there that possibly should have been simply thrown out, just to see what reaction you might get. I do like the basic composition of this - the leading line through and out of the trees from the fork in the path, so to speak. Has potential to be a pretty darn good shot, though I'd end it at the bottom of the light "v" - have the canopy of trees be the terminus. Then you have the shiny bit of yellow and the opening near it up at the top of the picture, leading the viewer out and beyond.
Technicals, however, are another story. To my untrained and ignorant-of-finer-things eye, technicals pretty much suck, and in this case seriously detract from what could be a decent picture. Message edited by author 2006-11-02 14:10:31. |

Losing With Graceby posthumousComment: As much as I love shooting my cats, I didn't play in this thread for kinda the same reason you noted. I love the premature eulogy here - is it original? I'll add that I'm glad you still have Grace with you. I've put down three so far in my adult life - a dog (15) and two cats (15 and 16) - and its nearly impossible to do. The single biggest defect pets have is they just don't live long enough.
I will say that they do visit me on occasion in dreams, which is simply delightful beyond words.
Say hi to Gracie for me. |
