It's quite liberating, isn't it, to open up and work the bad weather, the harsh times? That's what I prefer on the Cape, actually; winter over summer anytime for me, given the choice. And as a resident of the Carmel/Monterey area for 4 years in the late 70's, of necessity I came to love the sullen light of winter and how it transformed the landscape.

One gets that sense here. Nicely done!

The Pinedo image immediately came to mind when I saw this entry, and I googled it to see how close they were. At first I was a tad annoyed at such blatant "copying", but then I did a reality check and said to myself, "Hey Ward, we DPCers copy EACH OTHER all the time, in the spirit of learning "how they did that", so why not do the same with an outside-DPC image?"

And you did it very well indeed, and I am delighted to see you crediting Pinedo in your notes. This is just the way it ought to be.

The Pinedo image has much more subtle modeling on the umbrellas, and I prefer that, but regardless this is a compelling image; congrats on your top-20!

Aside from that this image is powerfully done, all the stuff people notice, let me say that I find the foreground vegetation to be particularly well-balanced in the overall composition, where many might have left it quite dark. It's a great anchor to the otherwise-symmetricality of the image as a whole. Beautiful!

Pennybacker Bridge in 3-D

This is very interesting, and skilfully done.

I'm not wild about the gradient on the gray BG; I assume the idea is to present this as if it is a standalone construction, and I find myself wondering how this would have worked if you had exactly duplicated the DPC flat gray, then done something like using that gray for both BG & a border on your image, a pretty wide border, so the whole would float with the DPC-standard black hairlines loosely defining the target space. Or something like that...

I'd love to see you do a variation and see if it seems more or less 3-D. Regardless, a really crisp image and a fascinating presentation.
