Ansel's Roseby glenncComment: Excellent working of the tonalities, great detail and DOF. I'm really bugged by the way the "turned" section of petal on the lower left border is an eyetrap that pulls me away from the center of the image where I want to rest: I wish you'd carefully isolated and toned down that one spot, it would have paid great dividends in overall impact. |

Spoon over half coneby JemifusComment: ROTFL! Major points for the title and the attempt at humor. The execution of the image is horribly "bad" from a conventional perspective: I'm not sure but what that may not be entirely intentional on your part, not that it much matters...
In any event, thanks for the chuckle! |

The Cold Catskillsby scottiehamComment: The rendering of tones here is excellent, as is the overall sense of sharpness and detail. The lighting is a bit on the anemic side, and the composition fairly lackluster, so overall the image doesn't have the "Oh, wow!" factor that the best few of these entries have. Still, you've captured very well the *technical* qualities of a decent "Ansel"; this is one of the better-rendered of the snow scenes, given what you had to work with. |

My Red Roseby JohannesFrankComment: Another nod to the Adams "detail" genre, and very nicely done. I'm a little offput by the peripheral lightening of the BG around the petals, it's quite artificial looking and *seems* more sloppy than intentional. In Ansel's work we never see this clumsiness of effect, the transitions are almost always seamless, subtle and organic in nature, even if the effect itself (when comparing to the "straight" contact print) might be extreme. |

Rose and Driftwood by fotofanComment: Nice to see another of the few entries that acknowledge the "other side" of Ansel's best work, the muted, luminous "detail images" that he did so well. I'd have liked to see enough DOF that all the petals were in sharp focus, is my main nit here, but nicely done. I don't think the heavy-handed border is helping you much, but it's not that serious a hindrance either; I think it would have worked better if the white keyline were at 1 (or maybe 2) pixels width instead of the 8 or so it seems to be. |
