Well, it's good you cracked your own top-5, LOL. This was one of my highest scores awarded, as well.

One of my top-rated images. I knew you were gonna be in trouble though. Regardless, a wonderful image, one to be proud of.

I'm amazed this didn't do worse :-) Its sheer, random, matter-of-factness is so anti-DPC. I love it, and even more so now I know it's yours, because it's so un-timfy in its scope. Good one! One of my top votes.

Hah! Did a LOT better than you 9's. And for good reason. That one is dense and clotted, this one breathes and has flow. Great work! Finished near the top of the non-formula entries. Though you *were* beaten out by a bunch of damned cows, jejeje. Ain't they cute?

Extra point for title, since the previous image in my queue was of 7 wine glasses :-)

It's interesting. This is a devious example of dealing with "7" as a concept, but the challenge asked us to show 7 of the main subject, and even IF you call the panes of glass the "subject" you have 49 of 'em, so at a fundamental level this isn't meeting the challenge, or doing so only very obliquely.

Nevertheless, it's a fine image and I'm giving you a respectable score.

I didn't vote this challenge, so I'm seeing this for the first time. Got here through the "trolls" thread. You'd have gotten a 4 from me. Now let's look at your checklist:

Art evokes emotion. That's a valid criterion for art, but DPC isn't about "art" so it tends to be irrelevant. And even if DPC *were* about art, you still wouldn't expect to score well when pushing the revulsion button.

Adheres to the Challenge theme. It does do that :-) Shallow DOF is used.

Interesting color palate. The color *palette* is strange, I'll grant you that.

Interesting textures. I don't see it as partcularly *textural* myself; more a bunch of plastic-appearing blobs...

Details continue emerging if you examine the image for any length of time. This is true enough, but the same can be said for any detailed image, it's not really a point in its favor unless the details bear studying, and these really don't.

Original, unique composition. I can't agree with that. The actual composition is centered and fairly banal.

Similar subject matter rarely found. This is true; we don't see a lot of shots of chewing gum, and chewing gum alley in SLO is a one-of-a-kind place for sure :-) But in and of itself, this isn't a reason to give the image a better score in a photography contest.

Use of precious early evening sunlight. This is where I'm truly disappointed. C'mon! You had ACRES of chewing gum there. It was the golden hour, and you *recognized* this! Is this the best you could do? This unfortunately flat and boring angle of light, out of all the angles you might have chosen? You could have done so much more!

So, to sum it up, from my perspective you have a fascinating-but-yukky subject that you more or less completely failed to show to its best advantage, and your score reflects that.

R.
