Voyager-by GarryComment: Not one of the "first" power boat racers, no, but Hubert Scott-Paine, the designer and driver, received a hero's welcome in Great Britain after nearly upsetting Gar Woods and his 4-engined Miss America X in a race for the Harmsworth Trophy in 1933. Miss Great Britain III was a much smaller boat, with only a single engine. She was the first single-engined boat to go over 100 mph.
This is a very cool shot, beautifully processed, and the boat's a wonderful piece of maritime history; she was years and years ahead of her time, design-wise. |
