Whistle Stop Bluesby Elvis_LComment: Nice human touch. I do get the feeling that this is a museum type setup, but that's ok overall. A little contrasty around the edges but it serves to bring the viewer to center (which is almost backwards - usually a frame or vignetting for that purpose is darker). The placement of the guitar man adds as well by having a dark background behind him allowing him to stand out more. Not sure if that was intentional, but it worked. :D
Normally I'm not a selective desat person, but it would be interesting to see what this looked like with the guitar isolated by it's color. ???
Good luck in the challenge. |

Evening Yardworkby lynnesiteComment: Fun to see some of these in color, including people, and a real working train/railroad environment. You've done a nice job putting this together. The technicals are all in place. The two figures give the viewer a nice focal point and keep the interest in the body of the image. Nice job. Good luck in the challenge. |

Cold Steelby shutterflyComment: The tone of the image is too warm for it to be "Cold" steel. :D Actually, I like the tone you took with your processing approach. Nice tonal range. Interesting to look at. Can almost feel the power of that engine. Well done. Good luck in the challenge. |

CPR Yardsby c_rosneyComment: Great shot of a railyard. Captures the essence of what they are - not a pretty sight, but busy, hectic, and dirty. I hope you do well with this. Good luck. |

Building TheTranscontinental Railroad 1869by breadfan35Comment: Wonderful use of DOF to isolate the spike and eliminate the background. Sharp, well focused where it counts. I do want to "push" the spike to the right some to balance this. :D Should do fine with this. Good luck. |

Railway Roundhouseby GringoComment: Lot's to look at here. Maybe too much for some, but I like it. Very nice job of getting the exposure correct for this setting - HDR maybe? Well done. Good luck in the challenge. |

Familiar Greetings by QartComment: The bridge really adds to this. Keeps the viewer constrained some I think. The "waver" is a cute touch. Wonderful job of post-processing. The tones are very nice and you've covered the range quick well. Good luck. |

Ring Bearer after Ceremonyby joannsComment: Wonderful! I like how you've captured his face and expression of light concentration, yet show movement of the bubbles and those around him. Nicely done. |

old timesby DanSigComment: Your title lends me to believe that you're intentionally going for a vintage/sepia tone for this photo? Overall it's fine and the POV is good. It could be this monitor, but it seems like you could boost the black just a little. Probably could have cloned out the cars and building in the bottom left being that this is an advanced editing challenge. All JMO of course. Good luck in the challenge. |

Cross Countryby JudiComment: I've never seen frost on trees like that. Strange. The sky is a weird gloomy color that matches the dirt road off to the bottom right. Something just doesn't feel right with this photo. Sorry, wish I could say what. I do think that the railroad tracks are minimized way too much for the theme of the challenge. Seems like your image is more about the landscape. All JMO of course. :D Good luck in the challenge. |
