Day 18 - The Guardianby CapeSailComment: Sweet capturing that starburst on the light, and at F5.6? Very nice.
Wonderfully balanced composition. Pleasing to look at, simple enough not to wander.
I like it! :D |

Day 18 - Planerby BarbBComment: He-he. One of my past subjects here as well. :) I do a little woodworking on the side, but I'll spare you the image thumbs this time. :P
I like the color tone you've selected for an antique type feel. Including the wood shavings in the composition is a good move to add context. Only thing I might have done differently is in the arrangement of the background. If possible I'd have tried to have a continuous piece of material run from the planer all the way out to the edge of the photo frame.
Overall, nicely done. |

Day 17 - Abandoned Buildingby BarbBComment: This is certainly an interesting place. I imagine there are numerous photo op's here if it's close to home.
My first impression when I opened this is it's dark and a bit dreary. Not sure if it was really that overcast or if the photo is just underexposed...
What focal length of your 100-400 did you use? Sometimes in trying to tell a story with a photo it's easy to try and take too much in with the composition. If you had range left you could isolate some of the interesting features of this location and go for some tighter comps.
Anything there to stand on? The top of the water tank is blending with the roof line. A slight change to your POV could help make it stand out more (either higher or lower).
Can you get closer to that fence? Maybe include some foreground grass of interest with the building in the background?
All JMO of course. :D
Regarding the border...
I think there's a tutorial on that subject here on DPC. Yep...just looked. ==> Borders and Text
Sometimes I'll do it this way; finish the image work, resize to 620, border 1px white, border 9px black. Now I'm at 640 for challenge entry.
Anyway. Enough babbling on my part. Smile and keep having fun! :) |

Day18.jpgby FotoMunkiComment: Nice grab - cheater. :P He-he.
This is a wonderful image! The tonal range, the composition, lighting...everything. The reflection of the person on the wet sand is a cool bonus. Great shot.
Is the photographer in the image related to you? Would make a nice print for the wall or the family album. Heck, probably some stock opportunities here as well. |

Day17.jpgby FotoMunkiComment: Your story hit home and made me laugh. I can relate 110%! :)
This is a very nice photo. Light and shadows are fun to capture and you've exposed this just right. Very good detail and focus on the boy with a nice gleam in his eye. I also like that you were able to get this with him still looking elsewhere - not always an easy thing to do once they know the camera is directed their way. :P |

Old chair........by JLCComment: Are you shooting in RAW mode? Try adjusting the color balance on this a little to warm it up a smidge. There's a fairly healthy blue tint in it (must have been a cloudy day, or in the shade?). |

Day 17 - Old chair.........by JLCComment: Thanks for sharing the story of this photo and the subjects within. :)
I like the arrangement of this still life photo. The angle of the chair, leaving parts of the canning jar and white bowl outside the frame...that all works very well IMO.
The monitor I'm using at work isn't the best by any means. What I'm seeing in this image is big potential but it's coming up a tad short (again, probably this monitor). The 'white' cloth and basin aren't white - they're medium gray. An adjustment to (histogram, curves, levels - pick one) and a healthy shot of contrast, would really make a difference I think. Obviously JMO. :P |

16by suemackComment: The number '644' becomes the accidental focal point (it's where my eye tends to land naturally in this photo). Yet, there is so much to see and try to figure out... Fun image! :) The tones work well with the subject also. |

17. Walkiesby suemackComment: Cute and adorable. Great timing on this shot. I'd be interested in some details on this to get the zoom look. Almost looks like a special effects (on camera) filter (zoom) was used or something. Very cool! Nice detail and focus as well. Well done! |
