I'm delighted to read that this was a natural capture (I know pretty much most of your shots are - but didn't know who the photog was until after results). Frankly, I'm a bit jealous. Would LOVE to be able to find, let alone get close enough, to capture a decent owl photo. It's on my bucket list.

Actually, I don't really see much in the way of distortion. Where do you see it? If there's distortion, how could the trees in the background show vertical trunks (or nearly vertical anyway)?

Didn't vote (sorry) ... my observation at this point would be the softness. Looks like missed focus (attempted to get the head in focus but missed). I probably would have given this a 4. Hope that doesn't sound mean. Just being honest.
