Tilt En Vogue

Comment:
It works because the kid tilted to look like he was vertical. Good choice of black and white (so why's your name colorcarnival?) ;-)
I don't know what the place is, but I imagine it's an old sea fort.

I find car pictures as boring as (dog, horse, baby) pictures, but this old truck obviously has a lot of character. However, there's too little light on the side facing us (the surrounding light is great, though maybe a little less on the tree immediately behind). Yep, just a bit of flash to highlight the side of it.

Your first Free Study entry.
I think the main problem is the two columns of bricks- not sure what they're there for. Are they part of the fence? At any rate, perhaps a wide landscape view might have been better.
The snow looks a bit gray (but may be because of this school monitor.)

With a building scene like this, I think you have to have more spectacular lighting than you have here - such as early in the morning or late in the afternoon.
The balustrade or whatever it is (can't think of the correct name) dominates the centre of the picture; a brutal cropping at the left perhaps would have been better. As it is, there's a feeling that the building is leaning somewhat.

Why would you put saran wrap over your lens and, if you did, Why would you enter it in a challenge?

Well, it's an interesting technique with quite a pleasing effect. I wonder if anyone used it in the Blur challenge recently. (Obviously, I haven't looked at all the Blur pics ;=))

Aurora over Loon Lake

Comment:
It's a great aurora, which probably explains it's relatively high score despite the camera shake, eh.
How often do you get to see the aurora? And loons? I've always wanted to see a loon in the wild, since I had a Canadian teacher in sixth grade.
