Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that contributes well to the challenge

This is a nice abstract that pays homage to Aarons work, I like it. Your composition, the flat lighting, mono presentation and seeing all contribute well to the challenge theme. The sinuous strands of the dead plant add a lovely element of interest to the wall. I see this is only your 5th challenge and already you are a double ribbon holder, you are undoubtedly contributing in a significant way, I look forward to more of your work Philip.

An appealing image that does not meet the challenge

Great lighting Eugene it brings the building and crane out very well in a 3D way. I like your seeing and the crane shadow it all works well. This would be absolutely ideal under normal circumstances but given that Aaron strived for a flatness in his images I would say although there is an abstract element in the composition, the lighting and colour work against the challenge theme in this instance. Even had it been in mono as most of his work was, in terms of lighting it is simply ‘too good’.

Good seeing Manic. Any abstract that makes you think for a while has got to be good, this makes you think for a while. I like your use of diagonals to add a dynamic construct it works well. The random patterns of the blacks really adds to the abstract nature of the image. In terms of the challenge, yes it is reminiscent of Aaron̢۪s work, sell done.

Good seeing and interpretation Marcel. I̢۪m really pleased with the very positive critique you have received from your commenters, I have little to add constructively I agree with them. The image can work without the snow but my preference is with it as a base especially as it has been properly exposed it adds a soft whiteness to the rest of the image. It all works well.

Mother nature, the greatest artist of them all! The magnificent cloud shapes are beautifully enhanced by the gorgeous lighting that is brilliantly showing off the bright cloud against the textured contrasts of the darker lower clouds, ah its all majestically serene yet threateningly powerful. It could all easily be re-imagined into an iceberg amongst the freezing waters with its reflection and turbulent waves. Your exposure has captured the exquisite detail throughout in a most pleasing way. Yet another superb entry Eugene, thank you for sharing.

An image that contributes to the challenge

The woodland scene we have here has pleasing elements about it but as a work of art, it isn't. To be honest, it just doesn't feel as though there was a great deal of thought about it, it feels more of a snapshot than art. It lacks a focal point and sufficient depth of field. I like the mosses and can see potential in a low viewpoint having isolated one or more of the foreground mossy stumps against the soft focus trees in the background, such a scene would have had a lot more impact as a piece of art than what you have here. Sorry Drake but this one didn't work especially in this very well supported challenge.

How right you were with your prediction! So, having got over that, your record shot of someone else's art is, as you say, 'this is certainly art' that we are all now able to appreciate so thanks for recording it for our pleasure. There really are some extremely talented street artists out there whose works are there to give us pleasure on a daily basis. I am fortunate enough to experience such pleasure with a nearby building that never ceases to brighten up my day every time I see it. Thanks for sharing.

A good composition. The motion blur of the falls adds a dynamic and I like the mono presentation. What I feel is lacking is a sense of scale to show how mighty the falls are, if indeed that is the case, but there is the crux of the problem for me, I am unsure. Thanks for your entry Tom.

This is a lovely snowy landscape brought to life by the foreground skier and distant figures. A great composition, the placing of the skier works really well. The only thing that doesn't work for me is the foreground in the right corner it just feels as though the skier is about to come to grief in it. I like the diagonal of the flag-posts and the dynamic reds of the flags. Exposure-wise I love the whites of this difficult exposure you've brought the snow out nice and white without losing too much detail except in the sky which may be what snaffles is referring to. You could lose the bulk of that sky and its poor detail by cropping close to the mountain tops, the more I look at it with my suggested crop the more I like it, I think you would end up with an even better image. Thanks for a great entry Camelia, well done.

True art indeed, this is a wonderful image. I like everything about it, its one of those lovely images that really stimulates the senses, the oddness of the reflected chair in such a landscape gives it an endless appeal. The grainy mono processing adds so much atmosphere it takes it all to another level. Its very pleasing to see all the positive comments but I wish I hadn't seen riot's critique before embarking on my own because I may very well have missed the halos but now I know they are there – you know what thats likeâ€Â¦ Other than this minor blemish I think you have an outstanding image, well perceived and executed.
