Dream sunset by otto22Comment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge.
Congratulations on your red ribbon for this sunset with a difference! There is certainly a wow factor here, you̢۪ve captured the moment well Otto. Apart from the lovely mists and shades what really appeals to me are the long shadows from the buildings they are so beautiful. The shadows and highlights are all very effective they make for an excellent end result, well done |

Final exitby snafflesComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge.
Your image is sombre yet quite intriguing, with its low key dark and brooding dominance but with a suggestion that there is light at the end of the tunnel which by the sound of it was not entirely your intention for the viewer. It̢۪s quite difficult to determine exactly what I̢۪m looking at which is good because it intrigues, the shadow would suggest the silhouette of a person walking away but its effect it somewhat nullified by the connecting shape joining it from the left. I suppose you have to accept that this type of image is not going to appeal to all but at least the ones were outweighed by four of your voters who obviously greatly appreciated it.
I hope you are now feeling much more positive and happy than at the time of your submission Susan. Thanks for your entry. |

Sydney Headlandsby dewdodesignComment: Hello from the Critique club
An appealing image that contributes to the open challenge
The interesting cloudscape adds atmosphere to the overall result. There are a few things I would like to suggest to improve it, the first of which is the sun-hole, this overexposed circle and equivalent reflection would be best omitted completely with a crop close to the suns edge. There is a slight tilt to the sea, this is always a compete no-no for any seascape it just needs tweaking with the levelling tool. I think as part of your crop you could also exclude the foreground completely so you just have sea and sky this will have more impact. The whites of the clouds would benefit from being whitened more you can do this selectively without affecting the other tones within the image.
Thank you Christopher for your entry |

Waiting for the young birdsby otto22Comment: Hello from the Critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
Another excellent natural study Otto, well done. A nice pose with good accurate focus and use of DOF the colouring and detail is superb, again a high quality result. I have to confess though I feel a little frustrated that I would prefer to see use made of the water to reflect him as opposed to the soft focus background you have chosen. I think it would have worked even better but you still have a first class image, well done. |

Waiting Gameby PhocalComment: Hello from the Critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
You have to be commended for your patience, well done! Although these types of shots have been done many times before they never cease to appeal, he’s a beaut. Good sharp accurate focus and DoF that isolates him well with good colour and detail he’s nicely marked but those eyes – ah they’re gorgeous. Against all that green the red/brown markings really stand out, nice as they are I sort of wish he was all green because of the dominance of green throughout the rest of the image. My only criticism is that personally, I would have cloned out the stalk on the right hand edge it is a little distracting. Thanks for an excellent entry |

Hello dudeby otto22Comment: Hello from the Critique club

What a lovely puffin study. You have captured him/her in a lovely active pose, too often these lovely birds are too passive this is a lovely exception, good timing. The detail is absolutely lovely making for a high quality end result that evokes admiration. The background is well out of focus enabling the bird to stand out well and the composition is good. The only minor criticism would be the dark patch behind and above the bird it is a little distracting and lessens the effect somewhat.
Thanks Otto for another excellent entry |

Basking in the sunshine, ah you can̢۪t beat it! What a cute little critter. Well done in capturing this natural study. As your commenter has pointed out the foreground stick is unfortunately marring the end result significantly, its such a shame because the reflection is so effective. But, there are certain situations we find ourselves in that we can̢۪t do anything about but well done for a good attempt. |

Bird Egg Timerby clickodakComment: Hello from the Critique club
An interesting image that meets the challenge
Your intention to demonstrate the necessary passing of time to maturity of the chicks in order to break out of the eggs is quite obvious. I̢۪m not sure that its worked very well, the eggs themselves are quite insignificant through soft focus and diminutive size, certainly in comparison to the egg timer itself. I think it would have worked much better to have the egg-timer in soft focus in the background, that way the emphasis would have been on the eggs with a less obvious but equally effective inference of time passing.
For those concerned for the welfare of the nest ‘No fledglings were harmed in the making of this image’ might have been a worthwhile comment to include! Thanks for your entry Marcel. |

Well yes, you̢۪re right about the noise, this is definitely a candidate for the string theory! A great composition, excellent use of an intimate space within a global space it works really well. The distortions that could be expected from such a wide angle shot have been handled very well to keep them to the minimum as you have. His image is not as good as yours! Well done for another excellent image Eugene |
