An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Well done Daniel for your use of an explorative technique to create something unique as you have done here. This spinning technique is good for drawing the viewer in to the centred item of interest, this quite similar to altering the focal length of a zoom lens during a long exposure except there the radiating lens radiate towards the centre. The pattern of bright coloured lights also help to contain the centred attention. The choice of subject leaves the lower half of the frame less interesting so I think choice of subject is quite critical but nevertheless still an interesting image. |

Beautifully done Janine. Even before I saw your name below the image I knew it was yours it has all your hallmarks of quality about it. The colours and softness from the motion blur are both so very appealing. The lighting too is appropriate and helpful to the end result. The ghosting is another element that simply adds to the overall appeal. |

An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Even the ice queenâs pensive expression still manages to look beguiling and appealing. I donât think this works quite as effectively as it could on a couple of issues, the main one being the bulk of that seat The strong white edge of the seat and that infuriating knob are dominating the foreground to an extent they are detracting. If I crop the foreground out on my screen with more of a square format excluding the lower half it improves the image enormously. Also, if your model had her eyes more towards the outside that would have been more in keeping with the mood of regret you are trying to convey. |

You do use some interesting optics Eugene, or in this case, bog standard optics made more interesting. Its an interesting concept that has come out reasonably well considering it was a quick hand-held two exposure blend. You will be the first to recognise its shortcomings but the one that spoils it most for me are the blown highlights from the harsh lighting. Having said that thanks for another interesting entry. |

The fact that so many of your commenters did not guess your entry suggests not that you didnât execute your image properly but the exact opposite, how well you did execute it GinTay, well done. The whole idea of this challenge brief is to keep your commenters stumped and indeed it had me stumped too, I wouldnât have guessed what it was. Your DOF and POV were both well selected resulting in a challenging and pleasing entry. The aperture and shallow DOF proves what a macro this was so, well done in fulfilling the challenge brief so well. |

A great abstract John, most appealing. Everything is good about the single obvious pen against the background jumble of pens makes it stand out together with your title it leaves room for an obvious yet subtly mixed interpretation. I like the mono tones and lighting it creates an appealing mood with an air of mystery about it. I like your creative approach. |

Welcome to DPC Joanna, with this only your fourth entry, well, you didnât make it easy for folk did you? Your description, cryptic as it is, and the hint of a shadow of the cable in the background make me think this is some sort of plug. The real giveaway that I have the benefit of too is that the only comment you have flagged as helpful was the audio plug so that more or less confirms it? Anyway, well done for fulfilling the challenge brief with what was a tough entry, great DOF and POV very challenging. |

âThe coastline of your motherâs disappointmentâ? Whatâs Don on? Heâs nothing if not original, tee hee. Itâs certainly a lovely piece of agate. I have to say I have rather mixed feelings about this one Janine, I wish it had a greater DOF and more sharpness but then in terms of the challenge brief you could easily argue that the softness adds to the abstract element of the challenge. Taking that as an option perhaps an even shallower DOF but critical sharpness on a foreground element with an even softer background forming the backdrop may possibly have worked better? |

We donât have these interesting pods over here Susan so thanks for enlightening me. I like what youâve done with it. Your DOF and focus is good with the front portion of the pod nicely separated from the background. I like your composition, the shape is interesting and you have a nice diagonal from the twig in the background. The muted tones of the pod are nicely done but there is some spreading of this to the background, a nicer crisper more uniform snowy white would perhaps have helped it perform even better? A pleasing entry Susan, thanks for sharing. |

You have an unfair advantage Eugene with the ice queen for your model! Another lovely portrait, nicely positioned with her expression and eyes she pulls you in. As you rightly say this is a lovely lens with sufficient background detail to show that she is in an interesting location without the background becoming too distracting. I think I might have been tempted to tilt the camera down a touch to reduce the sky above her head but its not a big deal. |
