Hello from the critique club

An interesting image that meets the challenge well.

What a magnificent beast, you’ve done well to get close enough without disturbing him. Your composition is generally good but I have to agree with J9 that the a little more DOF would have helped with the background. Because it is so different from the foreground the softness is just a littl too much it actually feels somewhat ‘artificial’ as though its been photoshopped in, I am not in any way saying it has, but that is he impression. Anyway, its still a great shot, well done Trey.

An excellent panorama, and so it should be with all those images! You̢۪ve really captured the majesty and grandeur of the scene in a convincing way, those rugged peaks poking through the low-lying clouds are a truly wonderful spectacle. And the reflections give us a double vision that is most welcome. Clearly a lot of time, thought and effort has gone into the making of this image, well done John and thanks for sharing it with us.

Welcome to DPC Erin and what a way to start! This is a great composition with the emphasis well and truly on the flower against the white sands and rich blue sky it works really well. I might have been tempted to put the flower on the lower right third hotspot but it still works here. Part of me wishes I could see all of the shadow and its a shame the sands are not undisturbed the feeling of total isolation would have been complete then. I like what you̢۪ve done here and look forward to seeing more entried from you soon, well done Erin

A classic landscape all the elements all well presented for an excellent end result. The mirrored reflections add to the image in an obvious sort of way but what really makes this is the lighting it is defining all the important features well but also those lovely silver birch trunks are made to look so distinctive and delicate its a delight. I think the wisp of cloud is a perhaps a little dysfunctional here it might have been better to remove it completely in favour of a balanced scene? Another excellent entry Janine, well done

Why did I know this was yours as soon as I saw it Ronnie! Until I read your notes I thought it was another of your excellent frog images. For me this works really well I love the dominant grasses that effectively hide the ‘gator leaving you to search for him, the blurred grasses add to the air of mystery. Thank you for your notes and your link to the write up I can feel the excitement of the situation myself, another excellent result, keep at Ronnie.

Hello Victor and welcome to DPC with this your first challenge entry. You have found a location that enables us to feel the expanse of this mountainous region with some lovely recession far into the distance it gives us a sense of space and grandeur. The composition works quite well with the boulder on the left dominating the foreground but the green foliage is so insignificant it feels more like an intrusion than an integral part of the scene. There is a bluish cast over the whole image that would benefit from warming up a little with the white balance control, I think this would give a more natural feel to both the land and sky. Also, a touch of exposure compensation to brighten it all up a little would benefit the end result. All in all a great start to your DPC presence we look forward to seeing ore from you soon Victor.

A landscape that, as you say, lends itself to great images but let down badly by the blown highlights and an unsympathetic composition. The foreground shrubbery serves as a barrier deterring access to the rest of the lovely scene beyond. I think the water could have been better placed in a less central position to enhance the rest of the image. I do like the mountain and cloud formation in the background they form an excellent backdrop. With a little more effort I think the true potential of the scene can be more fully realised, thanks for your entry Jason

I can see you at this lovely location absorbing the wonderful scene in front of you and there̢۪s the challenge to actually capture that wonderful instant, I would agree with J9 and say you̢۪ve done a pretty good job of it, I feel the essence of the moment has been captured. You could argue that a little more light in the foreground to balance up but I actually think that would take the emphasis away from where it is on the lovely sunlit mist, the hint of light on the grass tips works much better. All in all you̢۪ve done a great here Fabio, well done.

Your positioning has enabled you to make good use of the arch and distant mountain combination and all this against the backdrop of that lovely sky. What an interesting arch that is, it looks very delicately balanced, in terms of size I suspect that its much smaller than we are led to believe here? What I like most about the image is the lovely tonal range, it works very well. To be honest, the more I look at it the simpler I wish the composition was so that we could enjoy that wonderful sky for its own sake. An excellent entry Craig, well done.

This is a fairly ordinary balanced scene that is lifted and made more special by the lovely light. That same light, however, is also a hindrance in the way it dominates and overpowers the lovely water feature. It̢۪s rather a shame your position hadn̢۪t been such that you could have removed it from the scene and made more of that water feature by moving your camera to include more of the right of the frame but I can see from this position that wouldn̢۪t have made for a very effective composition. It̢۪s a pleasing combination of colour against a near-mono water and sky sandwich that serves to emphasise the buildings and their shapes well.
