Hello from the critique club

An appealing image that meets the challenge well.

An excellent nature study Janine. Lovely sharp critical focus right where it should be, nicely isolated from the soft focus background. Good composition with looking space and nice diagonals of the tree. Good exposure for the bird but its a shame the tree unfortunately has blown highlights. I love the white detail on the edges of the birds wing feathers. All in all, a good image.

An amusing image that meets the challenge well.

This is a great take on the challenge, instantly recognisable even if I don’t recognise the title, over here its known as pacman. Its a simple but very effective idea that works really well. The lighting is good and the camera control is good too, there’s not really anything to fault about it, well done for making front page Joe.

Ah, its great to be a kid again! Your shot demonstrates a great sense of humour and imagination, well done Susie. Quite a bit of effort has gone into creating this humorous scene but also a lot of fun too, I like your carrot hombres with wire arms and legs, tee hee. The one thing that does let it down overall is the right hand side where your background softens to be met by a perfectly focused tree but the important ting here is the concept which works well. Thanks for the laugh...

An interesting image that meets the challenge well.

Well done in finding this purple artichoke for the challenge it is certainly off colour. I like your composition making use of negative space and further off colour enhancement as against a more normal brown or green of its natural surroundings. I think a bit more DOF to define it against the background may have helped a little, otherwise a good entry Marcel.

What a great idea and well executed, thoroughly deserving of your HM and score, well done Susan. I enjoyed reading your notes, what a lot of effort but well worth it. The pasta figure is so dynamic and the lighting really effective it works beautifully. It is a great idea but what would have made it work even better would have been better use of the space on the left for an admiring vegetable audience looking longingly at the gyrations of this wonderful pasta danca...

Hello from the critique club

An landscape image that contributes to the challenge.

I'm not really sure this fulfils the challenge brief, the cloudy sky is presumably the element that is meant to portray crummy weather but in actual fact that sky is really quite appealing and not, to me, indicative of bad weather. Everything also has a smudgily soft appearance, whether or not this is intentional it does not really add to the brief. In itself it is a pleasant enough landscape, thanks for your entry Janine

I like your humorous take on the challenge Marcel, it works well and congratulations on your HM well deserved. The person in costume really makes the image work, you must have paid them well! Your composition is good including the flooded table and seats really adds to the overall result. Thanks for the chuckle...

An appealing image that meets the challenge

Welcome to DPC Patrick and what a commendable start. These lovely flowers are a welcome sign of spring thus fulfilling the challenge brief. I like your shallow DOF that accurately portrays the single flower against the foreground and background of soft focus repetition of blooms, nicely and creatively done. The distant blue contrasts nicely too and the lighting highlights on the flower give it an additional glowing appeal. Thanks for your entry

An image that meets the challenge

The presence of so many lambs is certainly indicative of a springtime scene which fulfils the challenge brief. I like the shapes and contrasts of the landscape it adds nicely to the overall result, but the lighting leaves a bit to be desired perhaps earlier or later with longer shadows would have enhanced it some. Thanks for your entry Jonathon

Hello from the critique club

An image that meets the challenge

These lovely flowers certainly suggest spring has definitely sprung… Whilst the emphasis is certainly on the attractive springtime flowers it lacks a strong focal point. I see this is your first use of this lovely wide angle lens so its all part of the learning curve but I hope you will soon explore the creative potential of the lens. You can get amazingly close and anything close to the lens gets exaggerated so if you had gone in close on one of these flowers it would have formed a very strong focal point and improved the image enormously. Also I see you have used f22 and with that shutter speed presumably a tripod? An aperture of about f8 would have given you sufficient DOF and enabled you to hand hold it. I hope you enjoy using and discovering the creative potential in your lens Susie, thanks for your entry
