First Light by Ja-9Comment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
Well congratulations Janine for first place, your ribbon and a thoroughly deserved high score. Your image is really something special and a very fitting tribute to an excellent landscape photographer. The choice of a low viewpoint and technical accuracy has given the image a remarkable depth of field which draws you into the scene as a whole, it works well. The snows, the sky and the rugged mountains are all a treat and the panorama crop adds to it all, an excellent result well done Janine. |

In the Light of David Muench's National Parks by NeilComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
I had to quickly familiarise myself with David Muench, I would say yes, your image is a fitting tribute to his style of work. You have achieved great depth of field here through appropriate choice of aperture and focus point and softened the water with your long shutter speed to produce an image that I would imagine he would be proud of. As for the foreground the lighting helps to give it a more dimensional feel it works well as part of the whole. So, congratulations for your ribbon and high score, both thoroughly well deserved. |

My Nightmareby Mariano1127Comment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
Hello Mariano and welcome to DPC with your maiden entry, and what a maiden…! I like the costume and her make up, especially the fangs! Technically is not bad at all but I do have a couple of things to say. The lighting is good but she is too close to the background, you want it uniformly black and sufficiently soft focused to get rid of all the creases. Whilst camera shake is not evident I would suggest 1/60s as a minimum speed if it was hand held but it is acceptable if you used a tripod. Anyway, great start Mariano we look forward to more from you… |

Well Susan, you made the top ten, well done. Once again, there is a lot of thought and effort gone into this and the end result is truly macabre. It’s all well executed and suitably spooky. I have to plead my ignorance about the hand of glory but then I must have led a very sheltered life! Once again well done Susan. |

Great Horned Owl on Halloween evening.by RulerZigzagComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge well
How fortuitous It was to see your owl for Halloween and this challenge. I’m assuming you had a good tripod at 1/15 with that heavy lens? The image is nice enough in terms of composition and posing over his back that works well enough but the image is rather soft throughout. Also the tail feather is sharpest of all suggesting that the focus is not as it should be. Ideally, the eyes need to be the sharpest to draw our attention to them. The blue fringing on the leaf stem is also distracting but overall a reasonable attempt Anton, thanks for sharing. |

You’ve managed to make an ordinary leaf take on a new dimension with this macro view of the structure and colours of the leaf. The blemishes take on a whole different look and feel and the whole lets your imagination turn it into other things. It’s lovely to see both the delicate detail of the cellular and the strength in the supporting vein like structure, lovely Susan. |

Triumphantby PhocalComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge
Lovely capture Ronnie, justifiably well rewarded. I like the pose with the bird proudly displaying his hard won meal, I particularly like the two small pots of colour that are his eyes. I can imagine in the right light his plumage looks resplendent, there is a hint of it even here. The composition is good, in fact I don’t really need to talk about technicalities do I, because you’ve always got it well nailed. I would say its just about as ordinary as your excellent work could be, well done. |

The clock on platform 3by docjonnyComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting challenge that meets the challenge
Quite a challenge this, to make something interesting from the everyday mundane that we take for granted, I think you’ve done well here though I do think it could be improved upon. Given the image here I like the graphic qualities of the clock face against the equally graphic roof. Because of this I don’t think the left of the shot contributes anything at all in fact I would say it detracts. A portrait orientated crop with the clock in the bottom left corner would, I think, work much better? |

Quiet Contemplation At The Capitolby LustreComment: Hello from the critique club
An interesting image that contributes well to the open challenge
You’ve captured a quiet reflective moment here Mark, we’re observing the girl observing the scene and the water creates a tranquil effect to the whole. I think the obelisk adds to the scene but I’m not so sure about the rest of the right it doesn’t really do a lot to add to the scene. I think a square crop would work much better here, excluding everything on the right including the lamppost…? |

You’re right Joanna, those boots really do catch the eye, they draw you into the image, unfortunately so does the yellow bottle which I find distracts e from the them of the image. A lot can be conveyed in good choice of a title which I think you done here, but given the bucket he’s sat on a possible alternative may have been ‘all clear!’. I suggest that because it looks as though he’s having an urgent moment on the toilet and his mate is keeping a lookout for him…!?! |
