Having fun in the Fall... by WonderDudeComment: Hello from the critique club

This is a lovely portrait. She is a lovely looking girl with a lovely natural smile that beams out at you. I like the way you have animated the image with her throwing the leaves, your timing is good avoiding the falling leaves obscuring any part of her face and I also like the way they are back-lit they stand out from the soft focus subdued background. Whilst I like a square crop I think her hands would be too close to the edges this is preferable. Well done Daniel, congratslations on the ribbon. |

That looks like one precarious perch! It just wouldn’t be the same without his green coat, it certainly makes him different but probably most of all his outstretched leg completes it. Underneath it all he’s actually quite distinctively marked, anyway, a most appropriate choice for the challenge, well done Ronnie. |

Its always good to see you on the front page Marcel, especially with the coveted blue! You have captured ‘the decisive moment’ well, that split second that transforms an ordinary everyday scene into something that has a special essence. The girl’s lovely smile is a part of that moment together with the instant that she is relinquishing hold of the bag and the goods are now the customers. For even more impact, I would probably have cropped the left of the image to remove the lady completely at the point where her left elbow enters the scene. A great result for a great image, I’m proud of you Marcel, well done. |

Its truly remarkable how much is condensed into so small a space here. It gives us a fascinating insight into the density of the area especially effective at night with all the different lighting and colours. I particularly like the blurred boat on the water in the background. Thanks for shareing this man made world with us Gin. |

Congratulations Marko for your ribbon, very well deserved for such remarkable image. What really makes the image is the tremendous detail from the lovely sharp focus together with the shallow DOF that helps it really stand out. Your composition is spot on, I love the surrounding foliage it is all so convincing. I think there is a very slight tendency towards over-sharpening but it really does not deter, it certainly shouldn’t be confused with the lovely rim lighting on his back. A great image thanks for sharing. |

Well done Ronnie, you were well rewarded for waiting in the right position. That is a part of the effort that goes in to your lovely images there is a lot of patient preparation, stalking and waiting for the right moment to get that extraordinary image that stands out from the rest of the crowd. |

Congratulations for your deserved high score and HM for this excellent image. It’s all in the detail, truly amazing, they’re insects that we either love or loath but when you are able to see them like this difficult not to be impressed with the way they fit in to the bigger natural picture. Technically its very well executed, the focus is exactly where it should be and I like the slightly off-centre composition. All in all a great image Roger, well done |

He’s a fine handsome young chap. You’ve got a nice good sharp focus on his eyes which, as you already know, is essential for any portrait, this together with the shallow DOF helps retain our focus on him and this all works well. Personally, I think I would have tried to get a little lower down to his level, it is usually a more engaging end result rather than looking down on him. What spoils the image for me is the bright light on the top of his head, there are some clear areas there of overexposure which is a real shame especially in such a crucial area, his lovely blonde hair should be glowingly clothing his head like a crown. |

A well composed landscape that makes you feel a part of the scene in front of you. I like the duality of the foreground rocks with the background mountains, also the foreground detail of the water, its nice that you haven’t gone for the overdone cliched effect of over blurring it makes a now pleasant change. As with any good landscape they don’t just magically happen they are well thought out and executed in the perfect light and thats what this image is all about it has all the hallmarks of someone who knows how to get the most out of their surroundings, well done Kees |

A lovely golden hour seascape Janine. Though the sky and the foreground beach have some interest it is difficult to favour one over the other for compositional purposes which may be the reason it didn’t score higher. In this situation I will usually try and emphasise one over the other and more often than not I will choose the foreground, in this sort of situation I think this would have improved it and your result here but we will never know. Anyway, lovely image thanks for sharing. |
