Lighting seems off and it appears the focus may be soft. I had this problem and it was due to my skylight filter I was "protecting" my lens with.

This was definitely a candid shot. She was playing on the playground and she turned when I called her name.

I get a lot of comments about soft focus, and I am looking into that. Any suggestions... I am really new to all of this.

PS... Did you think to maybe try it in black and white as well. Don't get me wrong...I love the color so you can see the pink in the newborn's skin... But black and whites are very classy and it might be nice to have this in color AND black and white.
