True determination, I can be whatever I wantby IronworkerComment: Returning for comments.
While determination is certainly a strong defining feauture, it is quite an abstract one to bring out in a picture. In character studies they use the square jaw bone and lips curled down, but this is nonsense because we all know very determined people with pointy chins and great curling smiles. As a matter of fact, they come in all flavors.
The next question is can we attribute determination to a cutie like this who is not yet grown. Well, all this is sophistry. I see a defining feauture that is visible and beyond dispute and that is this child beauty. Yes, she also has rosy cheeks and curly lips. On the latter you get my 6. |

A very good concept. I would have opted for a little more light and contrast, otherwise a very nice image. |

Ear Tag!by ConcreteDonkeyComment: Returning for comments.
Interesting and certainly well defining, However, being that you are showing an exception, it would have been much better to have a close up between ears and eyes to give the viewer a better sense of balance. The image could have run from half the ear to the end of the brow. Do not be discouraged, you did accomplish the aim of the challenge and you have turned in a nice image. 6 |

Red Hairby SteveJComment: Returning for comments.
Here you have a wonderful, almost candid shot and a better choice of lighting would have helped this image greatly. The hot spots detract. Frontal flash is not the best way to go and then always examine the eyes. Ehen they are not dead sharp, it means a do over. I feel this would have made a good study because the hair curls are very casual and cute. I have placed you at 6 instead of 5 because I really would like you to consider improving the spirit of this image in your next shoot. Instead of going with the flash, in daylight, bring subject to a window. That is, use natural light in the absence of boubce flash, but do think twice about direct flash and take as many shots as you need. I focus one shot tight in the eyes, the other focused between the eyes. When the image is 3/4 face you also have the dof to worry about. |
