Waiting for the sun to go downby DustyComment: A beautiful shot. I am not too sure the color choices sets the tone for waiting for a sunset. Looks almost like the sun has set. but the picture still captured you a 7 |

Waitingby evenendresenComment: Nice idea, the blue tone sets the mood and the candles show nice light and mood as well. The only one I have seen that played this angle. well done |

Waiting for bridge openingby spudartComment: great idea. had to check the title though. too bad a better angle might have included more of a draw bridge. I hemed and hawed over a six and a seven....for me the B&W made it a six but I do have a prejudice against B&W. so knowing this i gave it a seven :) Good luck |

1952 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team by fluxnComment: I dont get it. I walk around for hours "looking" for a shot that will do justice to the challenge. Can someone tell me how boxing is a team sport? Please dont take this as sour grapes, I am just looking for a little guidance for future challenges. All in all however congrats on your ribbon |

three leftby ursulaComment: I am very new to photography so take my comments accordingly!!! The clarity is very good. I spent a good deal of time looking at the head of the plant. The detail is exceptional. I guess that in a competition like this B&W pics probably start off 1 to 2 points lower than where they should be. I am sure that some color would have placed you very near the top. I know you have done that in the past and I think it would have worked here as well. I do think its a great gallery shot and will try in the future not to be prejudiced against B&W pics. I think your work is inspiring. |

Splendor In The Grassby RoosterComment: Rooster, don't let the average voter let you down. Most of these people are infected by the stock photography syndrome (as 98% of photography we see, at least in North America, is advertisement). They don't see the artistic merit of your picture because it doesn't follow standard guidelines. There thrown off by your compositionally unconventional picture before they could even get drawn into it like I did. This could be partially blamed by bulk voting, where immediate impressions are the only thing going for you. Nevertheless, I personally think this is your best work and that you should have this one hanging on the wall along with any other family pitures.
Keep up the good work!!!

Well said Aleks. I fell victim to the "instant catch me if you can syndrome" upon further review I would have given it a six or seven. So why did I give it a 4? Because in the ten seconds before I moved on it did not grab me. My fault. I think I shall stop to smell the roses before I move so fast. Also in a competition you cant help but to compare against other shots. For me a 7 8 9 or 10 is reserved for the handful of shots that I think are the best in show. 5 and 6 are average compared to the rest and 4 or 3 just did nt do anything for me. 1 or 2 are reserved for no connection poor shots etc... texttexttexttexttextMessage edited by author 2004-06-01 21:31:17. |
